It has been rough on recruiting. I’m for the administration giving CBN a vote of confidence and hope for a successful finish to the season. If he gets this and we can pull off an upset or two and beat FSU he may be able to salvage a decent class. If we get a bowl game I think we win that too because it’s likely we won’t have many opt-outs. Please note I said vote of confidence: Not contract extension.
Expectations of events or things one has no control of should be rooted in reality. 14 years or so of mediocre play will degrade expectations of the fan base. It may be macho to say "I won't accept mediocrity", but saying it doesn't change the reality. If it did, we wouldn't be where we are now.
If BN is retained, you'll see a lot of "I think 7-5 will be a good year given our tough schedule next year".
Did you see the fsu stadium last week. Losing is expensive. 90k in the swamp is a pretty sweet check.
The wuestion is , what coach gives us the best chance to win next year. Do you have a suggestion as to who is willing to sign on the dotted line. This isnt like signing after sos or urbs. Our program has been struggling.
I’m struggling with the notion of keeping a guy that has been given the most resources of any coach at UF, has the highest paid contract of any coach at UF, yet has one of the worst records of any coach in UF history. I can’t wrap my head around it.
We certainly will see that. It's more an indictment of the trajectory. It will be year 4 and no evidence that BN has us on a trajectory to make the playoff one day.
Good article: Florida needs to make a final decision on Billy Napier as soon as possible | GatorCountry.com
Its a messed up situation. But whataya do. Its a tricky situation. Napier could win ten games next year, i believe it could happen. I also believe a DJ led team, i think Saturday showed vast improvement.
Is it possible? Yes Is it probable? I would argue "No" based on his history here and trajectory. Either one of us could be wrong. To me, it seems like too many dominos have toppled at this point. Recruits think he is toast and will not commit to this program. Donors likely have cut off the wallet as well, so NIL is not helping either. No NIL, no portal shopping either. Time will tell how this plays out.
10 wins??? Congrats on the optimism. I wish I could see it. Based on recent history id say it's more likely we have another mediocre season ....at best. The idea that some here are pushing that we keep a coach that has had 3 straight losing seasons and is now getting killed in recruiting is just bizarre to me. I can't imagine any big time program doing that in the current environment. But, I'm just a fan, so I will wait for the execs to make the call, tho given their recent track record I'm not optimistic on any of it. At least basketball season has started and there is plenty to be optimistic about there.
We went toe to toe with two playoff teams recently and now have a qb capable of winning playoff games. Thats a very recent development. Napier still may not be the guy to get us over the hump. If the boosters dont start writing nil checks, we will get a new coach very soon. Theyve already wrecked this class and i get why the money dried up. They are now straddling the creek. Moving forward with Napier now means they slready did damage by not getting a class. Firing him could also be a big mistake, The kids are playing hard after much adversity and he may go elswhere with a block of our talent and get it together at a new team. Hes been bumbling and slow to get it together but it may be happening. Its very unfortunate that DJ was hurt and we didnt beat Georgia. Had that happened, we could watch the next three games in a whole different light.
Hes getting killed in recruiting because hes been cut off financially. If that 26 mil buyout was being spent on rosters, we would at least be below 20 even while losing. Its almost like tge decision has already been made. Dead man walking. DJ's decision will be huge. Hows does he see whats going on? Surely there are talks behind closed doirs and the players certainly seem to be rallying behind Napier. The kids quit on our last three coaches but not this time. The players matter.
