this issue is more than the actions of a single doctor. Each pregnant woman’s health problems can be complex and, in some cases, not immediately apparent—especially to lay politicians and judges. Doctors are understandably concerned about facing charges, particularly given the Texas Attorney General’s zealous stance. Bottom line - a result is too many pregnant women are not receiving the care they need, and these are only the worst cases that have come to light. Is MAGA’s only solution to this recurring problem to keep blaming doctor after doctor, while young women continue to face severe consequences?
Pure BS conjecture. The law is clear. A doctor does not need to even know if there is a heartbeat to treat the mother in a medical emergency. Just stop peddling lies to push the agenda to legally kill the most innocent.

As mentioned, it’s a given that the laws in Texas make abortion illegal. This thread is about how the narrative is MAGA has enacted a law that is failing to protect or care for women with complicated pregnancies. These women want to survive, and/or their child cannot make it to full term. In some unfortunate cases, a pregnancy must be terminated to save the mother or because the child has no chance of survival. Doctors are now hesitant to provide necessary care out of fear of prosecution. In one case, above, the Attorney General went after a doctor even after a judge ruled in the doctor’s favor. In another case, below, a woman described feeling like “a walking coffin.” I don’t follow your position. Are you suggesting these women are lying, and lack of proper care wasn’t the issue? There is absolutely nothing in the Texas abortion law that has prevented any woman from receiving proper healthcare. Literally nothing. A doctor does not need to know if there is a heartbeat to provide care. The exception is clear and explicit. Does that mean doctors fail or malpractice occurs? No. It unfortunately happens. But this is the agenda. And not healthcare being peddled. If a doctor sent a pregnant woman home with sepsis in 2000 or in 2024…that is med mal. And the Texas Law has nothing to do with it. As it clearly states there is no need to even know if there is a heartbeat to treat the mother with sepsis as that is a clear medical emergency.
Sorry man that’s just a flat out case of malpractice. Based off your quote any way. For what it’s worth checking for fetal viability would be part of the evaluation and takes about 5 seconds. It can be and is done simultaneously while starting central lines, giving antibiotics, and vigorous fluid boluses. If she survived and they don’t check for fetal viability that’s a deviation from the standard of care.
Swing and a miss that takes seconds and is done at the same as other lifesaving measures. Having worked thousands of codes and thousands of traumas there are literally multiple people doing multiple things at the same time. If not it’s malpractice which is was for discharging her when she was septic to begin with.
That’s crap there is no reason to not treat sepsis in a pregnant woman. Fluids, broad spectrum antibiotics, pressor support. Treat the infection and support of systems failing. It’s malpractice.

That’s utterly ridiculous there are plenty of antibiotics to treat sepsis that are not toxic to the fetus. Vigorously giving fluids is not toxic. Plenty of meds to increase BP not toxic to the fetus.
Tell that to the hospital lawyers. And the OBGYN and/or ER doctors. Or talk to Q. Even though he's not a lawyer or doctor, he seems to be the premiere expert in the Texas Law! Of course, the actual doctors and lawyers involved in these cases may have a different opinion.

I didn’t say you made it up. And no I wasn’t there. Based on what was printed it’s BS. Many here are under the idea you can’t treat sepsis in a pregnant woman, well that’s total complete crap. Anyone who pedals that as a reason this girl wasn’t treated properly is misinformed. If it was the treating doctor he’s an idiot and may be trying to avoid a huge med mal case. Fact is there is no reason not to treat a septic pregnant woman. In fact not treating increases the risk of fetal demise.
