pretty clearly the dude swats the cops hand away. Edit: watched the video again. Didn't even notice the numerous N bombs the guy throws at the cop as he stands up and challenges him to fight. You don't get to sit in your seat and ignore the police in this situation.
We have no idea why the cops were talking to this man to start. anyone have additional information? The man refused to obey the cops orders, saying "I'm not going to jail" and then resisting the cops at each turn. No racism here - whether it's a black cop with a white dude at a game or a white cop with a black due at a traffic stop when you act contrary to what the cop is demanding and resist arrest you're typically going to get your ass kicked. Was the man high on meth? Is he some WFC participant? We don't know...point is - cops don't know; and, they - like most of us - want to go home, alive, and live to work another day. Additionally, you have the bystanders shouting and yelling and being of no help whatsoever. All you need for a full fledged riot is another person to put their hands on the cop. No cop is going to take that chance. They're going to do what they were called to do and get out. Cops might be right to arrest him, might be wrong; but, you're not going to out argue a cop in this situation. Obviously, a lot more to come. EDIT: my comments were regarding the second video with the man in the black shirt. The first video I agree looks very bad for the cops as it appears that they have the person in control yet continue to strike. Again, as my initial comment stated: lots we do not know.
I am sure something was said or the fan refused some directive or otherwise was not cooperative. That said, the reaction by the police was completely inappropriate. These officers are supposed to be trained in deescalation not escalation in these circumstances.
Jeremy Williamson on Instagram: "So this is what we are doing now Jacksonville Sheriff's Office we are beating people with handcuffs used as brass knuckles? Tazing and beating the shit of a completely non aggressive person? Officer bowers and officer d j bowers and e Kelly both deserve to be fired and should never be allowed in law enforcement again."
Any bets on whether this guy drives a jacked up 4x4 truck with a "Blue Lives Matter" flag on one side and a MAGA flag on the other?
The Executive branch of government has the guns/power. How do you de-escalate a situation where you are requiring the person to leave and he is saying "hell, no!" This isn't your 7-year old child who won't pick up his toys. It's a grown man - not small - who is willfully and demonstrably refusing the demands of the cops. De-escalation sounds great in an academic setting or sitting in front of a computer; but, the truth is that the reason the Executive branch of government has the guns/power is that they will use it if you do not comply with their demands. That's why it's important to choose wisely to whom you cede that power. EDIT: Again, my comments here were on the 2nd video of the man in the black shirt. The first video had not loaded when I watched the 2nd and commented.
I can tell you what I’m certain of, regarding these situations. How ever it got started, for whatever reason, you DON’T need to keep beating someone once they are down.
On the surface it looks ugly. I’m going to wait for all the footage and facts to come out tho. It will be interesting to see what the Blue Lives Matter SEC football fans who always preach “just comply with the police and you won’t have a problem, “police brutality doesn’t exist” and “give cops immunity” have to say about this.
You do not have to submit to a cop if you didn’t do anything wrong and the cop has stated a lawful order and says he’s detained. He did not say that and who knows if he is even a cop. All of the people are gonna rightfully make money off these over the top criminals.
Sorry, but there are tons of video on YouTube showing officers restraining and removing folks from vehicles, etc., without resorting to beating the crap out of them. I agree that many folks acting like a$$hats deserve a good butt-kicking for their antics, but that's not law enforcement. The cops that beat the guy need a taste of a grand jury and prosecution. They actually hurt law enforcement more than doing their job. There's no context beyond the beating that would have justified it.
You don't go in using your cuffs for brass knuckles. I've watched cops in other places get drunk assholes to leave sporting events with no violence at all. I've seen cops de-escalate situations. The key is it takes a little while. You can't go HAM after 60 seconds just because someone won't respect your authority. If that cop had invested another 5 minutes I bet that guy would have left on his own
I had a similar incident back in college at the Landings where a crooked cop slammed my head on the ground for jumping the barricade into Hooters to go back to my table. I tried to file a report and not one cop would even acknowledge me. So no fan of Jacksonville PD.
Lots of Blue Lives Matter/pro-police folks over there, I’m guessing they don’t want any threads that can possibly bash police.
