By: David Wunderlich -- November 1, 2024 This year is Florida’s best chance to beat Georgia since 2020. I would’ve said since 2021 if Dan Mullen had made an Alabama-like game plan instead of using the contest to prove a point about starting quarterback selection, but that’s history now. That doesn’t mean UF is likely to win in Jacksonville. UGA is still the odds-on favorite, and for good reason. Kirby Smart has had his program humming at a high level for the better part of a decade now. Billy Napier only began to figure out how to get out of his own way after this season began, and it’s still very much an ongoing process. Saturday is Florida’s best chance in years to knock off Georgia | GatorCountry.com
Prediction based on this being a weaker than usual georgia team and a stronger than expected UF team?
I'm done losing to Georgia, so a win suits me about now! No logic involved, no secret insider information. Just hopium and proud observing the players turn the page over the last few weeks. They're more determined. Of late, they have manifested the ability, and will to win. They seem to be playing lighter. Serious, but not up tight. Execute. Never quit. Believe you can become victors. And finally..."Baby Jesus, I know I grovell quite often but, um... Go Gators!
Wunderlich pretty much covers everything here. The big question mark is how much improved are we and how average is this Georgia team? The issue is Georgia has played Bama, Texas and Clemson so their lack of production stats maybe a little skewed. Rivalry game and DJ gives us a chance and that’s all we need. I’m sure our guys are tired of hearing they don’t belong on the same field as these guys. I’m liking our chances more as we get closer to kickoff.
It definitely was our best chance and we were on our way to knocking them off when the unthinkable happened! Georgia is not the best team in the country, this game was so winnable! I find encouragement that we hung with both TN and GA this year. This it turning out almost like the 2020 season: "Dreaming what could have been". We are so close to being really good, it's a darn shame!
I disagree. We still had a chance but Napier went stupid. We were moving the ball on Georgia but decided to toss all that aside and have Warner run a naked bootleg. Averaging 5 yards a rush, just scoring on a 15 yard run on the previous possession, with 4 minutes to go, down 7, decided to throw on 1st down deep in our end. Game Over. Georgia goes on to score and the game is over. After a superb defensive showing, frustrating Beck all game long, dealing with key injuries throughout, after a stellar offensive line run blocking scheme wearing down Georgia's defense, after even a butt-ugly FG attempt that lead to a Georgia score, we lost the game on one call.
Disingenuous to assume we would run the ball the length of field with the time remaining. The game turned with DJs injury and the team withstood the realistic outcome until that point leading or tied. You have the benefit of bemoaning whatever play was called in that situation that didnt gain 3-6 yards. Fire away. The game was entertaining and that is all i expect when tuning in now a days as i dont embrace the current college model. The team played to their ability and it showed we are on par with ga. That is a result of coaching. No one would argue we are as talented top to bottom as ga yet rose to the occasion. Too many discount the difficulty in molding a team today when there are too many potential disparate agendas. Look to the NW for a glimpse of a truly dysfunctional program
Haven't you listened even once? We got most of our yardage on the ground after Lagway got hurt. On the drive before, we were ramming it down their throat even with them stacking the box with 8 and 9 players. 30 yards on 4 plays with a 15 yard TD run. We tossed in an effective higher % pass play. Georgia had no answer and was getting tired. We didn't even try to continue to run and the next possession but instead call one of the most difficult pass plays against one of the best defenses. You have to be perfect to complete the pass and asking a 3rd string walk-on, not even a 3 star QB, but a 0 star freshman walk-on to throw that pass is suicide.
Paying a guy 8 million a year and almost being competitive in year three with other historically similar SEC teams...huh...
Not making observations on the boor call just your response I saw fla go 55 yds in 2:30 mins on the strength of a 2/10 29yd pass after gettin stuffed for 0 yds on 1st down. Your scenario of 83yds in 4min highly unlikely. You choose to sidestep my apparently valid observation that any play call would denigrated by you if it didnt gain 3-6 run pass didn't matter, you would have called it boneheaded.
Florida’s Best Chance In Years To Knock Off Georgia.... Until they lose their 2nd starting QB of th season.
There you just proved my point. What was working until we threw the pick? Running the ball. 5 yards a pop, nearly 10 yards a pop on the previous drive. Georgia was stacking the line and still couldn't stop the run. We even had a 26 yard completion on that drive because Georgia was trying to stop the run. You pass the ball, but with high % passes. You don't put a low % pass on a 3rd string walk-on's shoulder. Come on, no wonder we have 4 straight losing seasons. We keep trying to put the square peg in the round hole and then blaming the peg for not fitting.
Napier is now 0-3 against Georgia! If it didn't happen in 2024, when will it occur? Napier's record at Florida (3rd year): 15-18 (SEC: 8-11)
You and the rest of the people watching saw an entirely different scenario, 55yd drive 29 thru the air ran on 1st down for 0yds to start the 2:30 min drive. Thinking we would be able to go 87yds in 4 min only running the ball borders on the absurd but you do you, wise one.
