Just going to leave this quote from the BN press conference after the UGA game: "Ultimately, when it starts to work and you play toe to toe with some of the better teams you start to believe," he said. "For the first time since I've been the head coach here, we showed up and we believed we could beat that team."
To Napier’s credit, he was more aggressive today. At the end of the day, he needs to win these games. He hasn’t smh
You can’t know we have a tougher schedule next year because it takes the teams in front of us to keep doing well. This schedule actually got harder for us. And as to your points, they are legitimate which means it’s sort of hard to blame BN for us losing both QBs who were doing well unless you think that was his fault.
Vandy coach SEC Coach of the year runner up Shane Beamer imo. Both hired new offensive coordinators in the off season and note the results. Spurrier has alluded to this and he is right. Also correct that we couldn’t beat Georgia if we settled for field goals and we didn’t beat the smelly dogs again. No way we get recruits with a 6-6 record even with an injury excuse. Sorry, not happening. Gators need a winner for a coach not someone who is 1-10 vs our rivals and also the worst Gator football coach in 50 years.
My wife is a teacher…you don’t know how hard this hits home. Most parents now expect their kids to get As if they try regardless of how they actually perform on the exam. Many teachers just give it to them so they don’t have to fight the parents. It’s a sad state of affairs.
Warner wasn’t what we needed today but, he hung in there and wasn’t as bad as a lot of Gator “fans” are making it. It wasn’t the ideal situation to be thrown into but he didn’t freeze up against probably the best defense in the country and actually made a few good plays. Yes, he threw a pick, DJ had a couple of throws sail on him too. I’m thinking after this he is going to get better. In fact I think the entire team is getting better and we have reason to be encouraged. As for next years schedule being harder: It has the same teams as this years except we replace UCF with South Florida and Samford with Florida A&M. How is that harder?
I haven’t piled on Warner but facts are he was as bad as some are posting. He was 7-22 for 66 yards. 3 yards per attempt. His qbr was 9.5 (Lagway was 61.5). He ran 4x for -10 yards. PFF had him at 6 turnover worthy throws. By every objective measure he was real bad. Doesn’t mean he cannot improve or that he wasn’t put in a bad spot but speaking the truth about performances doesn’t make any less of a difference”fan”.
Right or wrong, I can see a path that this isn’t Billy’s fault. The team played hard and injuries derailed the season. Plus with a firing of BN is an inditement of his choices, it would be in Straklands best interest to kick the can another year.
Has Stricklin seen enough with special teams, the O line, and play calling to direct some obviously needed changes there?
I respect that. But the piling on by some is excessive and IMO counterproductive. I didn’t mean to imply Warner’s performance was good, if thats how it came across. It wasn’t. By any measure. But I do think the situation he was put in was pretty difficult and I have seen total meltdowns by QBs in similar or even lesser circumstances. He didn’t do that. Thank goodness he didn’t. Don’t know if we had another option. I just can’t stand to see the young man, who is the offspring of two Gator alumni BTW, get scorched on a forum that is open for all to see.
The next 3 games will now be big uphill battles. Even as bad as the clowns are, that game just got tighter. UF is staring at 5-7 or even 4-8. Will the injury situation change the decision to be made on Billy? I’m not saying it will or won’t, just asking the question.
