The D definitely seems to have turned the corner, and with a healthy Lagway I think we were well on our way to winning that game. Such a shame. I admired the fight they had to even tie it at 20 (I wasn’t sure we could could sustain a drive for a TD with QB3), but winning another game from here will be a challenge. Even FSU. I’m a bit mixed because I truly think this team was turning the corner. Yet at the end of the day we are probably going to see 4-8 or 5-7.
So we keep a coach because we should have beaten tenn but didn’t? And we could have beaten the dawgs but didn’t?
Yeah you might want to avoid Wing. It’s impossible to ignore him - just give him space and avoid eye contact and you’ll probably be alright.
Forget records. What if our class rank isn’t in the top 30 after FSU? What if it’s outside the top 50?
That wasn’t the question I was answering. Napiers tenure is certainly questionable and up for grabs, but this game doesn’t fall into the column of where he screwed up.
Are we talking about THIS game or his body of work over 29 games? Because I thought the thread was based on this game.
Did you not read my post where I said that BN, for the first time in 3 years, is showing a team that is progressing thru the season? Beating 4-5 UCF and a very average UK team is not what I look for in a Gator coach in year 3. We played tough vs. UT but that game is hardly a recommendation for BN given that a coaching blunder of 12 men on the field cost us 3 in a game that ended in OT. BN dug a hole with two losing seasons and many inexcusable coaching blunders over the years. The recent games are encouraging - especially if we were in year one. But we are in year 3 and likely will have 3 losing seasons. Our recruiting is underwater (to use your boating analogy) and NIL boosters that I know are done. This is CLEARLY BN's best coaching season. And we will have a losing season with currently terrible recruiting. I am the first to criticize Gator fans who condemn a coach for not winning the SEC every year (Spurrier). This situation with the losingest coach in modern UF football is not that. Ultimately, to me the problem is that watching UF football now reminds me of watching UF hoops under Mike White (though White had a far better record). We simply never out scheme a team, we never go for the kill, we make horrible blunders at critical times that are clearly coaching related (not really a mike white issue other than late game), and the staff we have is very average. But, again, yes, I see progress this year and one can argue that Billy is like Dabo who needed many years to "get his system in place." I do not see a vendables on this staff and I do not see BN doing the things (new OL coach, special teams coach, offensive coordinator) that would be necessary to win at an acceptable rate (ie, not having losing seasons). He is a stubborn man who dug a hole and kept digging for far too long. I respect the opinion that he has shown growth this year, but going from a 3 out of ten to a 5 or 6 does not give me great encouragement. If we keep BN, I hope his boss(es) demand he hire an OC and he must get NIL supporters behind him. Having an average coach (8 wins) is zook-like and will just delay the inevitable. Can Billy change his stripes and become a killer who recruits like a maniac and uses every edge (special teams, scheme) to win? A new coach is entirely unknown and a risk too. However, if we can get someone who is a proven winner with potential championship upside, I'd take that shot.
I’m supporting the team. I don’t think the team should lose in this instance. I accept my kids for who they are, but I don’t accept them not succeeding at what they want to do.
You could say DJ was our capable back up....he got hurt..so the back up to the back up is what we have now
