    Bob Costas is retiring as a Major League Baseball play-by-play caller, marking the end of a legendary run in which he became synonymous with the game over four decades and earned a place in the broadcasting wing of the Baseball Hall of Fame.

    Good for him. Everybody ought to try retirement at least once!

    Remember Pizza Hut sponsored a softball game at the beginning spring training. It was always All-Star teams that participated and was played at the Long Boat Key Golf Club in Sarasota County in 1985. I was a junior and caught a couple of homers, one by Eddie Murray and the Hawk, Andre Dawson. Autographs galore. I remember meeting Costas and got his autograph. He was super polite and he made an impression on me. Good memory.

    @polkgator-

    Andre Dawson was playing college baseball at FAMU at the same time I was playing at FSU.

    I always said Dawson was the best player not in hall of fame that I saw play! Then it was Jack Morris. That was eligible but not in.

    He could cover some ground in the outfield back then, had a cannon for an arm, and obviously he could swing it. He played LF back then.

    He definitely had a right fielders arm, lol.
