Seemingly it goes both ways, depending on what the two head coaches decide. So you can have 5 inning games or one 10 inning game.
This post has nothing to do with Red. She is a great pitcher, and I am excited to follow her career. But, sometimes, reflecting on what we have had is good. Delaney Gourley How She Started As a Freshman (2014): Went 15-1 with 127 strikeouts during her first season on campus, becoming the third UF freshman in the last four years to strike out at least 100 batters (Rogers, 2011; Haeger, 2012) Earned a save in her first appearance Feb. 7 vs. Illinois State; notched her first win the next day vs. Michigan Compiled a 5-1 record in 13 appearances against ranked teams, with wins over No. 4/5 Michigan (Feb. 8; first career start), No. 24/22 Minnesota (Feb. 16), No. 25 LSU (March 16), No. 21/22 Texas A&M (April 19) and No. 5 Alabama (June 3) Worked two scoreless innings to earn the victory in the season’s final game as the Gators defeated the Crimson Tide to win their first national championship Pitched the first postseason no-hitter (5 innings) in program history May 16 vs. Florida A&M during the opening game of the NCAA Gainesville Regional Struck out a career-high 11 batters March 2 vs. Radford at the Diamond 9 Citrus Classic in Kissimmee Earned three series-clinching victories (March 9 vs. Ole Miss, March 16 at LSU, April 19 at Texas A&M) How She Finished UF Career Ranks: ERA – 1.36 (Fifth) Opponent Batting Average – .162 (Second) Walks Allowed Per Seven Innings – 2.14 (Tenth) Strikeouts Per Seven Innings – 9.55 (Second) Wins – 66 (Sixth) Saves – 14 (T-Second) Appearances – 124 (Seventh) Games Started – 76 (Ninth) Complete Games – 44 (Eighth) Games Finished – 45 (Third) Shutouts – 30 (Fourth) Combined Shutouts – 18 (T-Third) Innings Pitched – 520.2 (Tenth) Strikeouts – 710 (Third) Strikeouts Looking – 133 (Eighth) Batters Faced – 2,058 (Tenth)
Delanie (Lefty) Gourley is one of my all-time favorites. She was really fan receptive and easy to talk to. She signed a softball for one of my granddaughters at the Carolina game in 2017 and she gave my granddaughter a real thrill just talking to her. For that, I am always grateful to Delanie.
I, too, was a big fan of Gourely - maybe my favorite pitcher after Stacey Nelson. She was a great starter and when CTW needed a reliever to come in and kill a rally - you could count on her. I always felt she was a true pitcher - not just a thrower.
Greatest Gator pitchers of all time were Stacey Nelson, Hannah Rogers, Kelly Barnhill and Lauren Haeger. We all love Delanie Gourley and she's up there on the list, but not Top 4, IMO. Keagan Rothrock will be in the Top 3 when she's through as well.
Maybe not in that order, but, yeah on your Mt Rushmore. Delanie and Lele O are right there on the next level for me.
I sent email to Ms Brittany expressing displeasure over 13 days since last news on softball website and no news about fall ball. Also asked to broadcast all games including early season tournaments. Mentioned more news online and push up to the media can increase fan base and aid in recruiting. We certainly want the appearance of a First Class Organization to accompany our First Class coaching staff and players. Asked her to get the email to proper person. Told her no reply expected or needed.
Such great memories thinking back about former players/teams, big wins in big games, big swings and big pitches that cemented legends. I’m so excited to witness this newest version of Gator softball! I’ve said it before but THIS Gator program has brought me so much joy over the years. I can’t wait for this team to write its own chapter in this long story of Gator Nation greatness!
Personally I don't keep a top 3 or 5 list but Delanie is overlooked often. Her stats were also amazing in 2017 as a senior. It was jsut insane the year that Barnhill had. And that change...beautiful
I agree 100% My great memories started in late May 2007, UF vs. Tex A/M, the first softball game my wife and I had watched, ever. Stacy Nelson vs. Amanda Scarborough. We were hooked and have watched every game available since. All kind of gyrations to get Gatorvision from PC to Tv. Single camera through the backstop screen. Many great players guided by a great coach. We feel cheated every time a game is not on air. Current roster may be best ever. Disappointed we can’t see fall ball. Can’t Hartley wait for February!
This program is by far my favorite Gator Sports Program, since 2008. I have never missed a game online, by live stats, on radio, or on TV; whatever is available for me to consume. These ladies are true student-athletes.
I would definitely agree with that. I think that CTW has gotten as much or more out of his team/talent as any Coach in other programs with Mouse being the only possible exception.
The year that HANNAH ROGER won the championship it was DELANIE GOURLEY taught Hannah the off speed ball before the CSWS.
There have been many good catchers for the Gators over the years, but until last year Aubree stood out as the best backstop that ever caught behind the plate. Now, Jocey has taken over that title. Jocey is the best ever to play the position for the Gators.
