Kennedy Martin Named AVCA Division I Player of the Week - Florida Gators

Kennedy earned this honor. As an OH she is a beast. IMHO she will earn this accolade several more times in her career!

 

The team isn't very good. Kennedy Martin is a poor server who should sit the bench rather than be in the game and serve.

Have her serve it underhanded to get it in over the net

 

The team has a lot of individual talent, IMO, but they haven't gelled as a unit very often this year, especially against quality competition. Injuries have played a major factor and Stucky, who was the driving force behind the team's elite play last year until her horrible knee injury, doesn't seem to have regained her mojo - probably because the knee is still less than 100%.
In regards to serving, for the season Kennedy Martin has 19 service aces to 29 service errors. Taylor Parks has 24 service aces to 29 service errors. AC Fitzpatrick has 9 service aces to 29 service errors. Isobel Martin has 16 service aces to 28 service errors. Emily Canaan has 17 service aces to 22 service errors. Our best server, Ellie McKissock, has 25 service aces to 19 service errors. As a team, we are very aggressive with the serve, with 141 aces and 189 errors. Not good. But Fitzpatrick is the biggest liability; Izzy Martin is the 2nd biggest liability, K. Martin 3rd.

 

I do wish we’d get better in our out of system offense. Cannot send back free balls for good teams to run their offenses.

 

Complete and utterly BS! Nothing in that set was Stuckys fault. There were no fewer than 9 over passes, 2 net violations, wild passes all over the court, AC didn't get pulled till 19 points and zero blocks. Maybe Stucky could have had a block or two but pulling Stucky was not the problem.

 

So Parks immediately serves out, isn't going to be able to block either but the 45 attacks Kennedy will get the rest of the night will make the staff happy.

 

Not a single overpass on receive in set 2 and didn't have a bad pass till point 22. One over passes on defense and served a lot harder....I guess that's because she changed the setter. This team doesn't play for stucky.

 

I do not think Alexis entirely trusts her knee yet.
As I believe someone else said, you can only be cleared for 6-rotation if you can do it without the brace.
She has not played without it all season.
This is no criticism. We do not know where our head would be with this type of injury and recovery.

 

No over passes in set 3. Two on the tape that Parks handled and pretty much everything else but maybe two passes were atleast a 2 pass. Amazing how a setter changes the passing? And I stand corrected...Kennedy at 45 swings after 3 sets. I guess stucky doesn't know you don't have to set anyone else. I'm already waiting for the off season portal action.....right off the top of my head I believe Stanford, Kentucky and Kansas all have senior setters.
There is no way Stuckys injury is why we lose first sets. There was nothing any setter could have done in that first set, just like the ones vs Carolina and Tennessee.

 

Seems clear that we play better w/ Parks right now. No disrespect to Stucky but it seems clear.

 

BTW, to those who say we need "to address the elephant in the room" about Mary Wise - she is a top 4 coach in volleyball all time! That is "middle tier"? Give me a break.

Martin is a beast and parks is a damn good freshman setter.

 

Seems clear they want to play for Parks...there is nothing a setter does that makes anyone pass better, serve better or play defense better. They gave Stucky zero effort in that first set yet she takes all the blame. Gonna hurt to see her in a different uniform next year just like Beason and Bre.I hope Kenbedy doesn't end up like Thayer Hall with the number of swings she has to take with this system.

 

K. Martin had 31 Kills again tonight w/ .377 hitting %, 8 errors in 61 attempts. She had 2 serves aces and 2 SE. 10 digs. She had 42% of the teams attempts

Huge win tonight at a very good Arkansas team. First set was really bad, but they played well the rest of the match and Taylor Parks with 49 assists was great. Kennedy Martin and Jaela Auguste were incredible. Fitzpatrick and Izzy Martin continue to struggle from the left side, although Izzy had 19 digs, which was second only to McKissock's 20.
