How do you know you have "common sense?" Because the notion that you know more than everybody else on that seems to lack "common sense."

My opinion is that abortion can be the lesser of two evils in some situations.

If you're totally against abortion, I can appreciate that. There's nothing pleasant about it.

Really? What specific situations are more evil than baby murder?

I think abortions should be an option in limited situations. Rape, incest, the mother's health, etc. would certainly qualify.

But the how, when and who decides of "an option in some situations" is the crux of this issue.

I understand your emotion. Baby murder is terrible. You have the right to believe that a total ban is the right answer.

I noticed that you didn't answer the question. I suspect that is because the answer is that total bans are unpopular and the other evil is losing elections. Meaning that a fetus' status as a baby is contingent on the electoral implications, which doesn't seem very common sense to me.

Absolutely. And currently, the states seem to have control so, like with voting, we'll have a mish-mash of laws....some of which will be pretty crazy.

    1)Everyone agrees murder is wrong.
    2) < half believe abortion is wrong (60-70% accepted that heinous standard of Roe)

The ones that want “total abortion bans” apparently think by just lying and calling it “baby murder” that suddenly everyone will just agree on the levels of #1.

Mental delusion. Some apparently want to slaughter everyone that disagrees with them. But that sort of conflicts with #1. Also ignores that new women are continually being born. Maybe to really solve this dilemna these deep thinkers need to ponder lobotomizing girls at birth so they can serve their only true Godly purpose. As silent breeders. I should be careful not to give the nutbars any ideas.

Not sure what you're getting at. My opinion on abortion has nothing to do with elections or parties.

And yet, you can't or won't name these other evils that are worse than baby murder.

The abortion issue is something I have serious issues with on both sides. I voted No on Amendment 4 this time around in Florida because it allows abortion up until birth. That is absolutely pathetic in every way. I also disagree though with the 6 week abortion ban.

I also do not support a National Abortion law either way. I do not support a nationwide law allowing abortion and I do not support a nationwide law banning abortions. The Supreme Court got it right, it is a state issue that should be decided at the state level by voters.

The middle ground is there. 15 week abortion ban (enough time for the woman to know they are pregnant and get an abortion) with exceptions for rape and health of the mother. My only stipulation with the rape exception is that charges against the rapist must be filed at the same time. This way it prevents women from using rape as an excuse for a late term abortion.

But this issue hits home for me. Someone like gator_lawyer acts like they know exactly when a baby truly becomes alive. My cousin had an extremely premature baby, at just over 6 months (almost 3 months premature). Yes the baby was in the NICU for several months, but survived and now is a thriving young adult. Someone like gator_lawyer would say that fetus wasn't viable at just over 6 months, and yet that person is here today. It has been scientifically established that a baby could survive birth as early as 24 weeks. Obviously there would be major problems, but it could happen.

The pro-abortion crowd would not consider people like my cousins child viable when they were born.

Abortion needs to largely be restricted to rape and health of the mother. Abortion is too often used as "after the fact" birth control. I know none of you here want to hear this, but no one is forcing women to have sex. Women know that anytime they have sex, there is the chance of a pregnancy. So if the women are that concerned, be on birth control and confirm the man you are having sex with is using a condom or even has had a vasectomy.

If you are not able to take those steps and don't want to risk a pregnancy, just don't have sex. Is it really that hard?

Abortion should not just be for women who regret having sex with a random man who then gets them pregnant.

As for equality, another problem I have with the pro-abortion crowd is they want the man to have no say. While that might sound fair, at the end of the day, if the woman decides to have the baby, that man is then on the hook for 18 years. 18 years is a whole lot longer than 9 months.

While I am against most abortions, I am willing to compromise and would vote for a 15 week abortion ban with exceptions for rape and incest. But I also want more protections for men. If a man thought the woman was on birth control and the woman lied to him, or if a man does the right thing and uses a condom and the condom breaks, the next 18 years of his life shouldn't be over. He should have reproductive and parental rights as well.

Every single election that I have voted in(not just presidential) has been a choice of “the lesser of two evils”. There is no candidate in the world who is going to give me everything I want. Never has been and never will be. For the last 20 or so years, if I can find a candidate that gives me 75% what I agree with, I will generally take the win.

But men don't have the freedom to kill their kids either. Women are the only ones that can get pregnant.....it's not political.

BTW, I'm not in favor of a total ban.

So it's ok to murder a baby if a woman gets raped?

In my opinion, it has to be an option. The woman didn't choose to engage in risky behavior. She was a victim of a crime.

Yes.....I understand killing a baby is a terrible thing.
