The proposed amendments to the Florida Constitution dealing with abortion rights and recreational marijuana are close to passage, a Florida Atlantic University poll released Tuesday found, but both are right on the edge. Amendment 4, which would enshrine abortion rights in the state Constitution, has support of 58% of Florida voters, with 32% opposed and 11% saying they don’t know. Though that’s a strong majority, it’s just short of the 60% threshold Florida requires for passage of a constitutional amendment. Winning would require a relatively small share of those who said they still don’t know how they’ll vote to hit 60% — if those voters go all the way through the ballot to the proposed amendments. Everything seems to be going down to the wire this cycle. In every other election, 58% would be a resounding victory. It's too bad our Governor opted to tip the scales. A majority ought to always win.
If the poll is accurate that is pretty good news. Either the 11% roughly splits which would get to 63%, or they just don’t vote at which point the pro choice option would be 65%. I assume that the 60% is for those that vote on the amendment, not 60% of all ballots including no votes.
It does not make sense to me that Trump can be up 5% in Florida while Amendment 4 is knocking on the 60% approval threshold. It does not make sense that so many would vote for the amendment AND the idiot who created this mess.
