Ukrainians might not have to worry about North Korean troops, because Russian troops might kill them. Russian soldiers are speaking with disdain for the North Korean troops. They don't know what to do with them, or how to communicate with them. They do not want North Korean troops in their sector. They will have to pull senior officers out of other units to supervise the N.K. troops. Sounds like a typical Putin cluster. Just what Russian troops need--more distractions.

Are North Koreans fighting in Ukraine? Here’s what we know

South Korea is suggesting it will start to provide weapons to Ukraine if North Korean troops start fighting in Ukraine.

If South Korea decides to get involved in Ukraine, it has powerful options

South Korea has quite a few weapons it could donate.

Another informative post from Jake. He’s at his best, though, when he stays away from domestic politics and just analyzes the war. You aren’t going to convince me, for instance, that every person who buys a Tesla is secretly supporting Putin.

Only the new ones. The ONLY Tesla I would consider buying is one under warranty with a failed battery. Let me cost Elon $20 grand the first time I visit Tesla. Then I'd flip it.

South Korea considering cancelling large Apache purchase as they watch manpads and drones take out helicopters in Ukraine

South Korea rethinks $3.5B apache helicopter deal amid war insights

The South Korean authorities are seriously considering canceling the purchase of American AH-64E Apache helicopters. Insights from the ongoing war in Ukraine reportedly influence this decision.

According to the Ukrainian portal Defence Express, citing South Korean sources, "Seoul has initiated a comprehensive review of the feasibility of purchasing Apache attack helicopters." This concerns 36 AH-64E Apache units, which South Korea (ranked as the 5th strongest army in the world according to the Global Firepower 2024 rankings) agreed to purchase from the United States in August of this year.

The agreement, which has already received the green light from the U.S. State Department, was supposed to be valued at $3.5 billion and include helicopters, armaments, spare parts, and logistical support.

However, after examining the war in Ukraine, Seoul may change its mind at the last minute. South Korean sources indicate that the potential cancellation of the American helicopter purchase (and a reduction in the role of such machines in the South Korean army) stems from lessons learned from the war in Ukraine. Russian helicopters' vulnerability to attacks using MANPADS (man-portable air-defense systems) and the aerial dominance of drones are significant factors.

more new tech to get battlefield tested. the intel from this war will save a lot of american lives going forward. I think that is lost on a lot of people

U.S. Unleashes ‘Drone-Killer’ Arsenal to Help Ukraine Crush Russian Air Assaults

The U.S. Army is deploying a powerful new anti-drone technology to Ukraine to combat Russia’s rising wave of drone swarms, marking a major escalation in battlefield technology. Dubbed the “hypersonic pesticide,” this tech is engineered to detect, track, and intercept drones with pinpoint accuracy and devastating speed, providing Ukraine with critical support against relentless aerial assaults.

The relentless drone attacks, primarily carried out by inexpensive but destructive drones, have overwhelmed traditional Ukrainian defenses. This new anti-drone solution, which includes advanced radar systems and hypersonic interceptors, represents a quantum leap in Ukraine’s defense capabilities, especially as it is designed to respond instantly to fast-moving threats. A Pentagon official described the system as “sci-fi awesome,” indicating the game-changing nature of the technology in modern warfare.

These cutting-edge defenses will help safeguard key infrastructure and frontline units, aiming to disrupt Russian drone operations that have cost millions in damage and forced significant resource redirection. The deployment highlights the U.S.’s deepening commitment to equipping Ukraine with the tools needed to defend itself and underscores a strategic shift towards integrating advanced tech to counter evolving threats on the battlefield.

russian economy is consuming itself...no pretty end to this, just hope the nukes get secured

    Putin's Economy Approaches 'Burnout Point'

"Russia's economy and war effort is coming under increasing strain," the ISW said in an update on Sunday, noting this will "pose increasingly acute challenges" to Putin's ability to sustain the war over the long term.

Russia's key interest rate is now 1 point more than the emergency 20 percent level after the war started in February 2022 amid the turmoil of sanctions and economic isolation by the West—and it could go higher.
    ..........
"The main problem is that this will further weigh on private-sector investments, which have already started weakening, because the borrowing costs are now reportedly exceeding the profitability in many sectors," Vasily Astrov, senior economist at the Vienna Institute for International Economic Studies, told Newsweek.

"The counterargument of Ms. Nabiullina is that this will create the window of opportunity for the businesses that invest out of profits rather than by taking credit, and that this is the way it should be," he said.

The U.S. will take off all limits on weapons usage against North Korean soldiers in Russia if Russia uses them in battle, according to the Pentagon.

I don’t think that was wise to tie these restrictions to the presence of the North Koreans. Those restrictions are going away the day after the election anyway, so on the off chance that Russia does not employ the North Koreans, it looks like a bad-faith exchange. What we should be doing instead is mentioning all of the times we have discouraged liberal democratic powers from sending expeditionary forces of their own and pointing out that the presence of third-party belligerents undermines U.S. intent to limit the war.

game on in Chechnya..the children are really fighting now..blood feud and all. nt sure I am following the genesis of it all but if they are launching drone strikes and trying to kill each other hopefully it detracts them from Ukraine

sounds like Dagestani senator had Putin blessing for business deal that Chechnya dictator (supports Putin) didn't like and Putin is staying out of it while the kids fight it out

First drone strike in Chechnya reportedly launched from Dagestan

“The disputes that took place in Moscow recently, in the business center and so on, are all interconnected,” the source said. Earlier, Kremlin-appointed Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov stated that drones attacked the Russian special forces university in Gudermes on the night of Oct. 29.

According to him, there were allegedly no casualties, and the fire was extinguished. Russian Telegram channels reported that this was the first drone attack on Chechen territory.

On Oct. 16, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov recommended that Kadyrov contact the police if he felt his life was in danger. This statement followed complaints from the Chechen dictator about an alleged plot to kill him amid a conflict concerning the Wildberries marketplace, in which Dagestani senator Suleiman Kerimov is a participant.

Ihar Tyshkevich, a leading expert on Russia from the Ukrainian Institute for the Future, explained the nature of the conflict between Kadyrov and Kerimov.

The dispute arose over control of Wildberries, of which 99% of shares belong to Tatyana Bakalchuk (née Kim), and 1% to her husband Vladislav Bakalchuk. After they decided to divorce, Tatyana Bakalchuk merged Wildberries with the advertising company RUSS, controlled by Suleiman Kerimov. As a result, a new legal entity called RVB was created, with Robert Mirzayan (director of RUSS) appointed as its director. Kerimov, who initiated the merger, obtained not only formal approval from antitrust authorities but also approval from Russian dictator Vladimir Putin.

You do realize this statement goes both ways, right? I'm guessing you supported the Iraq invasion for many of the same reasons you support Russia's invasion of Ukraine?

Or, are you just that much of a hypocrite?
