Golden seems to have stumbled on a formula that means points even if you aren’t great offensively. We saw it in part last year. More possessions + faster pace = more shots, and more shots + good offensive rebounding = more putbacks. If you have improved defense/defensive rebounding, then that means even more possessions with faster pace, leading to more shots, rebounds, and putbacks. Very similar to Nate Oats, but without the premium on threes. Still have to be good in the halfcourt, especially situationally and down the stretch, but you don’t have to be a great shooting team or have an elite offensive scheme to put up points. In the portal era, that’s a winning strategy.
So great to see Billy D still quietly connected to the team! I suspect great things are on the way this year….
Billy one of top coaches in any sport for Fla.. I really think one day way down the road we will be asking who was the better coach. Golden will get a NC or 2.
I bet if you gave Golden 5 months in the offseason to write a football playbook it would be at least as good as what we have now
Our biggest problem with Golden will probably be fighting off the NBA or another big college offering a huge contract. I think he's that good and a rising star.
I'm not smart on that stuff, but are football and the other sports' pot of money connected? Like, would a buyout of the football coach affect the amount of money we could offer the basketball coach, or are they separate warchests?
It's amazing how in-command of the situation CTG seems, in all kinds of contexts, despite being comically young.
I don't know. Nor do I know if it's fiscally wise to actually have a warchest sitting around and doing nothing, on the chance that it might be needed at some unknown future date.
given how difficult it is to make the jump to the NBA, It's safe to say he would have one hell of a run here at UF before that's even a consideration...which would mean a lot of winning seasons and perhaps an NC. Think we'd all be fine with that.
Can't find a thread to put this in, so hijack-away. Tre Mann, 32 min, 14 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists, 1 TO in a loss last night. But his +/- was -15?
The NBA is littered with young coaches who don't have a lot of winning seasons under their belt or national championships. They also look at the systems, ability to get the most out of players, and cultural fit. Golden is a charismatic guy who players seem to like playing for. As long as he doesn't fall on his face here, he will be somewhat coveted by the NBA. He's got the "it factor".
