Oxycontin was the greatest pain killer known to man. Until we figured out it wasn’t.

And that had actual clinical trials to show efficacy and “safety”, yeah I know they minimized the addiction potential.

Weed from 10-20 years ago isn’t the same as the high potency stuff. It’s like comparing Lortab 10 to Dilaudid.

Frankly, all things being equal, I’m not sure I favor full legalization. It’s not like it’s ever been hard to get. I do however favor full decriminalization. As I mentioned before, I’m voting yes due to the fact that it’s already legal for recreation. We just pretend it’s medical so some more middle men can get rich.

Do you have any data to post that backs up you claim?
Specifically comparing rates of psychosis from THC vs Alcohol?

Cannabis, a widely used psychoactive substance, can trigger acute cannabis-associated psychotic symptoms (CAPS) in people who use cannabis (PWUC). To assess rates and correlates of CAPS requiring emergency medical treatment, we analyzed data from an international sample of PWUC (n = 233,475). We found that 0.47% (95%CI 0.42; 0.52) PWUC reported lifetime occurrence of CAPS, defined as the occurrence of hallucinations and/or paranoia requiring emergency medical treatment following the use of cannabis. A range of factors correlated with risk of CAPS in the last year: higher rates were observed in young individuals [risk ratio (RR) 2.66, compared to older PWUC] and those residing in Denmark (RR 3.01, compared to PWUC from other countries). Furthermore, risk was elevated in those using predominantly high-potency resin (RR 2.11, compared to PWUC using herbal cannabis), those mixing cannabis with tobacco (RR 2.15, compared to PWUC not mixing with tobacco) and those with a diagnosis of psychosis (RR 14.01), bipolar (RR 4.30), anxiety (RR 2.92) and depression (RR 2.68), compared to individuals without a mental health diagnosis. Taken together, acute self-limiting psychotic symptoms in the context of cannabis use may occur in about 1 in 200 PWUC’s lifetime. Some individuals could be particularly sensitive to the adverse psychological effects of cannabis, such as young individuals or those with pre-existing mental health vulnerabilities. In light of the movements towards legalization of recreational cannabis, more research should focus on the potential harms related to cannabis use, to educate PWUC and the public about risks related to its use.

I dunno if I buy that. The average potency has increased due more availability and competition. Back in the day the market was flooded with ‘regs’ junk. You could never sell that shit these days. But if you were willing to spend more, there was very potent stuff back in the 90s as well. Also, you can actually choose the potency and strain these days.

Numbers are higher, that’s old article.

Many doctors didn’t even know about CIP a few years ago.

Sad thing is people with existing MH issues are at higher risk and those are the “patients” getting their medical cards from some hack Doctor.

Give it time. I’ve posted about the huge rise in CIP admits in Colorado ER’s.

So among the global universe of lifetime cannabis, users, one half of one percent might experience an event over the course of their lifetime of cannabis use. Even less if you don't live in denmark and don't use resin. Also skews to people with preexisting issues (duh). Seems pretty safe to me

Also, marijuana has no LD50, so you literally cannot fatally overdose on it.

I'm not saying there aren't risks, I'm saying they are remote.

you seem to only care about the (crazy low) costs? what about the benefits? Millions get great enjoyment from weed. My daughter can't do weed due to OCD, so she doesn't. But, she does not advocate to deprive others of joy.

No randomized double blind studies have shown any health benefits.

I know you love it and that’s fine you’re a grown adult.

I personally know 4 people with kids who have gone or are going through CIP. none had any history either personally or in their family of mental health issues and certainly no schizophrenia.

Colorado should ban skiing, driving & football before weed based this "logic".

more people have died at loveland pass alone than have died of weed.

I agree most people will not grow their own. I didn't agree that it was hard to grow. I was not considering where people lived in that part of it though.

So if you're against legalization of marijuana at the same you're against criminalizing it, what do you envision happening regarding its use?

I believe less than 10% of people who smoke marijuana do so regularly, and I assume the regular use is what worries you. Approximately 11% of Americans are considered alcoholics. That should also worry you as much as marijuana abuse IMO. Depending upon the severity of their addiction, alcoholics have an early death. Moreover, I venture to say their alcoholism causes more deaths than marijuana use by way of drunk driving and spousal abuse. Indeed, I suspect the consequences to others by alcoholics is greater than by marijuana users. In short, I believe alcohol abuse is at least as dangerous as regular marijuana use.

Legalize it, tax it, and fund rehab centers.

Right, cryp or hydro like some called it. I remember having some OG Kush in northern Cali in the late 90s that blew my mind. And some red haired stuff in South America around the same time that’s probably the strongest I’ve had. But none of it compares to edibles. Now those are scary.
