Difference here is Opium vs. Weed, and there's really no comparison between the two, both from an addiction standpoint or an inebriation standpoint. On that point, alcohol is near the top on both of those and is perfectly legal.

I'd bet any amount of money that they're all MAGA. I.E. they like to smoke, but their fealty to the leader takes precedent. Also, if your dumb enough to believe a collaboration between politicians and advertising agencies - easily two of the worst actors in the system - you probably shouldn't be allowed to vote. You seem to be struggling with the concept, so let me walk you through it.

We are trying to pass an amendment that would make driving legal. However, said amendment doesn't allow for 4x4s. Do you vote "Yes" on giving people the right to drive vehicles, or vote "No" because they don't allow for your favorite type of vehicle?

If you vote "No" in this instance, you are an idiot and probably need to have your voting rights stripped.

Pretty much the only TV ad I’ve seen on this at all is the misleading “big weed” ad, and that’s pretty much the message. So it would seem that yes indeed, some people are that easily manipulated. It’s why advertising exists.

 

So do I after going back and forth. As far as harm goes, I haven't researched any studies on the long term effects, but I suspect anything one regularly ingests that alters brain chemistry has got to be ultimately harmful. I don't think it has any short term, though I could be wrong. Alcohol intoxication, however, is a different story.

People the world over for millennia have ingested substances to relax them and make them feel better, among other purposes. It makes no sense to me to have one legal and the other illegal and punishable by jail sentences.

 

I would never say it’s harmLESS, my opinion on it is that it is in the same realm as alcohol and tobacco and should be regulated as such. Stop wasting time with this shit and focus on real crime. If we must have a “drug police state bureacracy”, they should be 100% focused on hard drugs and smuggling operations.

I wonder if there are studies out there - seems a great thing for a sociologist or criminologist to study - on what this has done to help attitudes toward the police.

Making weed illegal made millions of Americans criminals. This made the police their enemy. I remember my older sister & her friends & hell everyone I grew up with calling the police pigs. It was only way later I realized this hostility is almost entirely due to weed.

I was in Amsterdam in 2008. I had weed in my pocket & a .5l Tuborg in my hand walking down the sidewalk. 2 cops were walking my way & for the first time in my life, I didn't get the jolt of adrenaline. I was happy to see them.

I think a sneaky benefit of legal weed is way less hostility toward law enforcement.
