Vast Majority of Americans Support Photo ID and proof of Citizenship to vote

At the very least, there needs to be some kind of standard. In Estonia you can vote from your laptop and I'd bet any amount it's 1000x more secure than ours.

Florida requires photo ID. I was distinguishing the different forms of ID required in the states (photo versus no photo) as well as a separate/additional requirement to provide proof of citizenship.

 

Anyone not wanting ID required to Vote makes me think they have an ulterior motive. Over 80% of the country thinks this should be required. I've yet to hear a salient argument against requiring ID to vote.

 

This shouldn’t be an issue. Anyone can easily get a picture ID and that should be a requirement to vote. You need to have safeguards in place to prevent voter fraud and requiring a picture ID is a very simple one that no Democrat or Republican should have an issue with.

 

If requiring ID affects even 1% of voters, that's 1.5 million votes that won't be cast in order to stop what is by all accounts at most thousands of illegal votes.

Non-citizens are not risking their lives to come to the country to cast a vote that has a 0.000001% chance of impacting an election at the risk of spending years in jail and being deported.

Make state issued ID's free and there is zero restriction to getting one. Simple as that. You need an ID to get pretty much anything in the US, why would voting be different? This is the laziest argument I've heard, and has been repeated for a long time. Why is the US one of the only civilized countries on the planet that doesn't require ID to vote?

So in the span of 4 years between elections it’s just too onerous? You are right I don’t understand and I never will. Seems like a bullshit excuse really.

 

People have been making this argument for years. If getting an ID is so onerous, why haven’t the Democrats organized efforts to help those people get their photo IDs? They have voter registration drives, why not have photo ID drives?

 

How do you propose we bridge the gap between reality and what you think reality should be?

May want to ask yourself that question. Give me a legitimate reason someone can’t get a photo ID in the span of 4 years.
