If he wins three more he gets another year regardless of a bowl win.

9-3 is guaranteed playoffs while 8-4 is still a maybe depending on which games are won or lost.

If we get two wins out of the next four, I would be extremely happy. Running the table is definitely asking too much.

With that schedule, it would be a no brainer. We would also win the natty on the 40th anniversary of our first title.

Expecting too much, yes. Asking too much? Nah, that is the standard.

    What happens?

We win the SEC and win the Natty

Sure I want Napier gone but that’s because I think he’s going to remain what he’s been. If we run the table then he’s a hero and gets a statue and a 10 year contract.

He is 2-13 vs ranked teams in his tenure. That is about as bad as you can be. Even the worst P5 team would be expected to win like 2 of 15

Are we looking at the past or are we looking forward? You can’t have it both ways. He was brought in to revamp the program. 2.5 years in it seems like he just might have figured some things out. It doesn’t make sense to look backwards when we are supposed to be looking forward.

Sure 2022 and 2023 is history. We want to see progress but we are 0-3 vs ranked this year

If he goes 2-2 vs ranked the rest of the way then that’s an argument progress is being made. At this point it looks like he’s going to have his chance to show us if progress is being made

    Basically he’s 1-5 vs ranked in 2022/2023.

2-5 shows some progress in 2024. 1-6 is more of the same. 0-7 is regression

The past is relevant to this year given what we've seen so far. How do you divorce the two? The only way to do so would be a very unlikely finish where we are competitive in every game while winning at least 3 in my opinion. Can't have a coach tell everyone how good the competitive depth is on the team prior to the start of the year and then complain about a schedule full of programs with 3 year coaching rebuilds or less. I don't expect to beat Texas on the road with a freshman qb or Georgia but any potential improvement we seem to be seeing will go out the window with anything short of competitive football going forward regardless of opponent. I'm not rooting against him I'm just skeptical.

Kelly is in year 3, same as Napier. Ole miss lost to Kentucky at home. Fsu should be a win. If Napier can't wring out wins to save his coaching life then what improvement are we really going to see with a lost recruiting class, our best WRs leaving and a still unresolved line quality and depth issue?

The past is relevant, but the future is not important.

Sure it is. And I have a bad habit of believing florida can win any game because I was conditioned to do so for the better part of my entire life but it's become increasingly hard to believe Napier can change who he is. We had a similar opportunity last year before losing to Arkansas at home when we had everything to play for.

The future is the most important. Thats why you need to make decisions based on evidence and not emotions.

Every coach in the history of sports says their team will be good in the future. At some point evidence that a team is moving in that direction is required

Napier will get his chance. But if we finish 1-6 or 0-7 vs ranked how can you possibly say we are making progress?

We could win any game because we always had great defenses until recently. I'm not sure if the defense is out of the woods yet but I'm starting to get a good feeling. An improving defense and offense helping each other is a beautiful thing.

I am advocating making decisions based on evidence and not emotion. The emotional thing to do is to look backwards and talk about what happened last year and the year before. The evidence based approach is to evaluate how the season is going now, after what looks like a turning point in the program.

To answer your question, if we finish 1-6 or 0-7, that would not be making progress, but respectfully that is a weird question. That hasn't happened yet, so how can you ask me if we are currently making progress over a hypothetical future outcome?
