I think you make a good point about our individuality and decision making which is not really impacted by politics.
However, careful how tenuous and slippery it gets when one party wants to chip away at your wealth.
I am seriously concerned about the dems who want to take my children’s inheritance.
That is the slope we are on.

And some people worship a charismatic former reality television star, failed real estate developer, corrupt politician with a long history of cons and no respect for the rule of law and Constitutional norms believing that he would be a competent president.

And yet you mock people for "voting against their own interests" when here you are admitting you are voting against your own interest. If Harris gets in, I believe your taxes being negatively impacted will be the least of your concerns.

But let me ask you this. You talk about hoping one day to vote for principled conservative Republicans again? Who are you referencing?

Are you talking about wanting to go back to the days of RINO's like Mitch McConnell and Jeff Flake? "Conservatives" who would do anything BUT fight for actual conservative values? "Conservatives" who would absolutely let the media dictate the narrative instead of dictating the narrative themselves. "Conservatives" who always promised and never delivered? "Conservatives" who would crawl up in the fetal position because they said one word that the left didn't like? Cowards like that?

Are you talking about RINO war mongers like John McCain? "Conservatives" that never saw a war they didn't like. If it was up to the "conservatives" you want like John McCain, there would be U.S. soldiers on the ground and dying right now in Ukraine and Israel.

Do you really want to go back to the days of the Bush's, Cheney's, John McCain, Bob Dole and Mitt Romney? RINO's who never really fought for Conservatives and let Liberals run all over them?

Sorry if some of us have no desire to ever go back to the RINO's and will fight like h*ll to make sure the RINO's never get a foothold in the Republican Party ever again. I'll vote Democrat before I ever get s*ckered and vote for a John McCain or Mitt Romney type ever again.

If my wife and I died today, my son could inherit 13M+ before estate taxes would even become an issue. If he can't successfully live on a 13M inheritance, then I have failed in my responsibilities as a parent.

The only caveat I've ever felt needed on an estate tax was farm lands for independent family farmers, or other similar family property directly linked to a business, where a primary property left in an estate triggers a tax burden that negatively impacts ability to continue the business tied to that property. I do think there should be some kind of exemption in those circumstances. But even with that, I believe there are trust structures already existing to help protect those assets.

    1. I don't think I've ever mocked such a group on here.
    2. Regardless of point 1, there's a difference between knowingly voting against your interest and being duped into voting for the fox to manage your chicken coop. If anyone making less than 2x the median salary in the US thinks Republicans are going to meaningfully cut their taxes, that is literally ignorant.
    3. The fact that you consider Flake, McCain, H.W. Bush, Dole and Romney to be RINOs says so much more about you than about them. It also highlights exactly what I meant by "that looks pretty unrealistic from today's vantage point."

You are correct. As of today.
But the democrats are always the party who wants to take more and run on taking your family’s wealth.
Agree on the exemptions you’ve mentioned too.

I would also add that by his standards Presidents Eisenhower, Nixon, Ford and even Reagan would be considered RINOs.

A conversation that has occurred in our house re estate/long range planning. One reason I was pleased to see Biden emerge in 2020, was a moderate option that wasn't an extreme. While Trump is a non starter for me, I wouldn't vote for a truly extreme candidate on either side.
I think most moderates hoped there would be a return to sanity in 24 and the GOP option would be viable. I would have voted Haley over Harris, I voted for several R on this ballot (Trump and R Scott notable exceptions). I also believe a Trump defeat is the best chance for long term success of the GOP and more of a return to elections based at least somewhat on real issues and serious discussion.

01/17 thru 01/21. Not really an issue of "believing" - debates about level of competency are fair, but forgetting those 4 years demonstrates you believe more in histrionics than issues. Note also: enforcement of the rule of law and equal application of same has somehow become "no respect for the rule of law" in some quarters. Have at it.

So, going back to the days of those Republican leaders, who the left all called Hitler also, is cool? Gotcha.

I have a different memory of that period of political sanity. I voted for several in the list. So, yeah cool. Whatever.

You voted for several on that list because they were more "Democrat Light" than they were ever truly "Republican".

If there's one thing more than anything else that Donald Trump has shown me and millions, it's that of the uni-party. That at the end of the day, before Trump, Republicans and Democrats would pretend to argue for their side. But at the end of the day, they would all be laughing at the same bars. Heck probably joking about how much they have fooled the American people, especially those who are Republican/Conservative.

You voted for those people because they were "controlled opposition", nothing more. They would promise Republicans the world and deliver on nothing, just so they could run on it again 4 years later. You voted for those people because the Democrats owned those politicians. Like I said, RINO's.

And even if Trump does lose this election, which I pray every day he doesn't, the days of Republicans going back to the RINO's are over.

Haley never had a chance and you're a fool if you think she ever did. Haley never had any support on the right. Notice how the states she won were those that had Open Primary Elections. Those Haley voters weren't Conservative. They were Liberals who were simply voting against Trump.

Once the Primary was over, if Haley had somehow upset Trump, all of those Haley voters would've gone right back to the Democrats. Their work would have been done.

If the Election was Harris against Haley, Harris wins in a laugher. I'm not sure if Haley would win any state outside of the Deep South (South Carolina of course, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana). Harris would have had the Election wrapped up before midnight.

I can tell you right now, if Haley had been the Republican nominee, I stay home. And that's the reality for the vast majority of Trump supporters. Haley never had a base.

Of course you would. Outside of the Bush's those RINO's were all losers. You want those type of RINO's again because it means an easy victory for the Democrats.

While this is true, the reality is your son deserves that money far more than the Government that did nothing to earn it.

You are right that if a heir can't live on $13 million then there was failure from the parents to properly raise them. With that said, they still deserve it more than the Government. The Government has enough money thank you very much.
