As for population, we produce plenty of food, have plenty of drinking water, and plenty of land to build more shelter. Why do we need population control? Furthermore, we currently have over 1 million more job openings than unemployed. What good would it do to double the number of job openings by deporting 8 million people? What would the economic impact be of removing 1 million people working in agriculture, for example? Reagan wanted to be able to bring needed labor over legally. His amnesty was supposed to be the first step in a longer process that never played out.
