live in a swing state, know someone that isn't registered to vote, refer them, get them to register, collect $47 each from Elon. sign their petition, get $100

Elon Musk Offers Pennsylvania Voters $100 Each As He Drums Up Trump Support (msn.com)
Elon Musk is offering $100 to registered voters in Pennsylvania to sign a pro-Donald Trump petition. "If you're a registered Pennsylvania voter, you & whoever referred you will now get $100 for signing our petition in support of free speech & right to bear arms. Earn money for supporting something you already believe in," the SpaceX CEO wrote to his more than 200 million followers on X, formerly Twitter.
    ....................................
It offers a further $47 for each subsequent registered voter someone refers to the petition. While this requires a signed IRS form for payments of $600 or more, there appears to be no limit on the number of registered voters that can be referred.

The stated goal of the petition is to register 1 million voters across swing states, only allowing registered voters in Pennsylvania, Georgia, Nevada, Arizona, Michigan, Wisconsin and North Carolina to sign and claim $100 before the offer expires on October 21 (the deadline for voter registration).

While federal law dictates that paying individuals to vote or accepting payment for voter registration or voting is an offense, compensating people for signing petitions or for convincing others to sign petitions is not against the law.

Campaign-finance lawyer Brendan Fischer told The New York Times that "the fact that they are only paying the referrer rather than the signatory further insulates the PAC from any accusations that they are buying votes," adding that America PAC is spending money to collect voter data, which is what standard PACs and campaigns routinely do.

He's now giving away $1 million/day to a randomly selected person in Pennsylvania who signed that stupid petition.

Musk is the biggest troll of all time. He has fudge-you money… he literally doesn’t care about any of us — we are morality of time — he has visions of grandeur of the future of multi-planetary species. Well, what about humans today? He couldn’t care less. Humanity will survive as long as we don’t blow ourselves up.

It takes 6,000 years at current tech to travel to the next closest star. There is no other planet other than this Earth.

Vengeance: He would be 100% behind the Dems if his daughter wasn’t transitioning.

OP says it’s not a crime.

Any statute to show it is?

Doubt it otherwise they wouldn’t be so bold about it.

Trumpy shill notes that perhaps this is not a crime, although it certainly ought to be, in his usual effort to normalize the Trumpy degradation of our political process and nation.

    What a surprise.

Trump and his morally bankrupt supporters have never been overly concerned about their corruptness.

    52 U.S.C Section 1037(c)

"Federal law states anyone who "pays or offers to pay or accepts payment either for registration to vote or for voting" faces a potential $10,000 fine or five year prison sentence."

"Who can sign the petitions? Only registered voters in swing states, which is what makes it illegal," Mr Hasen, a professor at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) law school alleged.

"Those who sign the petition - which pledges to support free speech and gun rights - will have to give their contact details, potentially allowing AmericaPAC to contact them about their vote."

"The rule prompted ice cream maker Ben & Jerry's to give its product free to everyone on election day in 2008, having initially planned to limit it just to those with an "I voted" sticker."

If it’s a crime they should charge them.

Proof that Chinese EVs are worth checking out. I see that petition is silent on free trade.

This will probably also play neatly into the ongoing Trumppublican narrative of being persecuted/prosecuted victims.

To add some context, Rick Hasen (the professor quoted there) is one of the country's foremost experts on election law.

If he still can, Garland will impanel a grand jury in early 2027 and charges will be filed by Christmas that year.
