Ongoing UF Softball Commentary

How did the four potential right fielders hit?

 

It looks like our two transfer infielders will be playing shortstop and second base. The hot bat will be playing Right Field. I think all other positions are taken unless Tim wants to play around with first base. Reagan will be the DP most of the time.

 

As an attendee who sat with Scrappy, Sandman and 1990 Gator, I can agree with most of Sandman but I reverse 2nd and Ss players. As far as RF , I see Townsend in RF due to here super speed and arm. She had one perfect Bunt and 1 nice hit up the middle. She also scored from first on a single by Corbie. I see Taylor starting at first as she has a great bat and has the glove to make plays that Ava can only dream about plus she is tall. The best pitcher yesterday was Keegan. Second best was Kara with Ava much improved over last year and Red. Liv was lit up for 9 runs in 2 innings. After the game I got to visit with Amanda and CTW. She is in my opinion the most loyal and totally bleeds Orange and Blu plyer we have ever had. If and when she wants to coach here, CTW will have the reason to say goodbye to Aric. As I said to CTW, you will have a very tough time keeping all these super talented players happy with playing time. This could be an epic season. Looking forward to the first 2 games next weekend. On the sad side, Mia made 3 errors, 1 SO and one fly ball to LF, which is why to me she will lose her starting position.

 

Thanks. Did Taylor actually spend some time at first base? If so, I'm going full blown on taking credit for that one. Scroll back through the board to several weeks ago where I offered the thought that Taylor at first might work (if she can do it as an outfielder before) and it would allow both her and Townsen on the field at the same time.

 

And Amanda is just simply a dream. Nobody but nobody cares more about the Gators than her. While she is spending her time with her husband at Clemson and playing ball for USA National, she never misses a second on what is happening with our Gators. She is simply one of the greatest Gators ever...at anytime and in any sport.

 

You’re exactly right Rick. I was saying that back in 2018 when she was a candidate for player of the year in the NCAA. The media loved Garcia, so Amanda lost out on an award that she should’ve won

 

I think Ava would step aside at first base so that she can concentrate on pitching and also make the team better with Taylor and Townsen in the lineup every day

 

Ava only has to step aside one year. After Korbe and Kendra graduate next year, Taylor would surely have an outfield position next year in 2026.

 

I would also put Francesca Enea up there as well.

 

For the record, Taylor did not play any first base in the scrimmage. She was solely in RF with Lamar. Townsen in center on the opposite team of Falby. I do not see Brown stepping away from first base. Right after she finished pitching she went straight to first. I’ll post some notes in the coming days about what I saw.

 

Ava is good at first and I love having her leadership in the field. I don't see her completley losing that spot if at all. Maybe itt is Taylor's when ava is piching.

Heads up. UT/UK fall softball game on SEC+ this afternoon at 4:00. An earlier game between Oklahoma and Texas A&M Commerce was also broadcast although that was from Commerce. Proves it can be done. We won't.

 

I tried to buy season tickets and so far I’ve been unsuccessful. They seem to be unavailable at the moment
