We continued to go after graduation, but don’t recall Chapelle. Was a big fan of way before he had his show.

After my undergrad. I think I went to one or two during those years, but was well-medicated. Probably didn't know of DC until about 2000.

Believe it was after he did robinhood men in tights but well before Chappelle show. We played south carolina for homecoming that year and his opening line was an enthusiastic "beat them cocks" with a corresponding full arm gesture lol. It was an obvious joke but his delivery had the stadium laughing.
@gatordavisl that should narrow it down.

I keep saying this over and over again... We have a ton of good football talent on this 2024 team. Every time we made a play, it seemed like there was another new player of defense making a tackle. I think the DC finally got the right players on the field to effect the game and a group that gives us a good chance of winning tough games.

Feel free to elaborate on the players. But several young Gator defenders made big-time plays. One player I noticed making plays was Gates. He was all over the place. Pyburn was doing his usual thing. Moore was great. There was a Cormoni McClain sighting.... good to see that. But the D-line was our true strength that effected the outcome of the game... Bridges.

Watson was an immovable object. He hasn't played this good since the USCe game two years ago in Gainesville. He won the "thighsman" that game... Lol... just a play on words for his immense effort in that game.

He did, but the year escapes me. I think the Growl I went to in my last year at UF was Billy Crystal

That could be the problem, particularly if they have to set up a stage for an entertainer.

This year it was in the O-Dome; not sure if this was the first time there or not. Prior, they had been holding it in Flavet field where the old flavet housing was. There is an amphitheater of sorts there.

O-Dome would be ok, if done right, just not as big of a crowd.

Here’s an interesting article about the Growl through the years. Bob Hope’s first appearance was 1976. One of his later appearances was nationally televised and I watched it in California.

Frequently Asked Questions: Gator Growl’s Stand-Up Comedian History – The HardyVision Institute of Pop Culture

Proctor and Bergman of Firesign Theatre emceed 1975, which I think was my first.

Also, President Ford recorded a message for the 1975 Growl. Here is the text from the Ford library. He talks about what it was like to play Center in college football.

As in aside, when my daughter was in high school she worked at Toys “R” Us. She sold Chappelle a child’s car seat and went out to his car and showed him how to install it.

Wish I could have seen that 2001 show--2001 Daniel Tosh, Dave Attell, Jim Breuer and also Mitch Hedberg in 2000.

I bet they were great shows.

    "Flavet"?

It's an acronym for Florida Veterans. After WWII, a lot of vets used their GI bill to go to college, and the University needed to provide housing for them, so built the "Flavets".

I think it was mostly married housing.

I missed them. And it didn’t matter how bad the team was.
