Fat B@$!@rd seems to re-invent his offense and defense every time they play us... lately. Let's see if we can also do a better job of adjusting in game to that possibility. Had we done a better job of adjusting at half-time to Tennessee, we would have won that game... even with all the first half blunders.

Man, we better beat UK. I don’t want to hear any excuses or talk about any moral victories. The current version of UF with its new and improved defense needs to handle UK at The Swamp. No Mertz to scapegoat, either. This is a must win.

If DJ plays loose and is not given a “play it safe and don’t turn the ball over at all costs” script, we might run Elmer Fudd and his team right out of Gainesville with a big loss. Especially if our defense takes another step forward this week and continues to play with discipline and intensity.
Look for Fudd to be in the ref’s ears from the opening kickoff until final whistle. That’s the one thing that is for certain. Can’t stand him.

Per Wunderlich: "Many a Florida head coach has gotten himself into trouble by thinking that the way to beat Stoops is to minimize risk to minimize mistakes."

Napier will need to cut Lagway loose. In doing this he increases the risk of injury to Lagway. In not doing this he increases the risk that his offense will be too predictable.

On the other side of this coin is the minimizing of mistakes. This is one area that Napier's Gators have not seen much improvement this year.

We are still seeing too many blown blocking assignments, players out of position, and poor tackling. These are just the mistakes by the Gator players. Napier has made more than his share of poor game day coaching decisions.

As for the risks to Lagway, it is a damned if you do and a damned if you don't. When you have a QB like Lagway, it is not a question on if they will get dinged up. It is a question of when. My main concern here is Gator QB dept (or lack of).

I can see a win here for the Gators. Provided that:
    1. Lagway's skills are fully deployed.
    2. Mistakes are at a minimum and are minor.

Good luck to you guys. I love our defense but our offense is just tough as hell to watch.

I’ll be there tomorrow. I hope for a good game with no injuries.

They have such a bad offense, I don't see this game being any indicator of turnaround, especially since it is followed by a murderer's row of games.

You're team this year is positively schizo. Blow out So. Miss, get blown out by USCe, then almost beat the Mutts, then blow out Ohio, then beat the Rebs in Oxford, then lose to Vandy at home.

I really don't know which team is going to show up for either school, which makes this a hard game to predict.

Yep I don’t even think Stoops knows. When you continually have to change your offense with new QB and new OC in a league like this you get exposed.

    Who knows??

What do you mean by a quarterback like lagway?

  13. northgagator

    northgagator GC Hall of Fame

Well it definetly was not a criticism

To answer your question, Lagway is your basic Duel Threat Quarterback like Cam Newton, Antony Richardson, Lamar Jackson and there are several more worth noting.

There are two downsides with first year college QB's like Lagway:
    1. Lack of experience usually presents errors in judgement. This is normal for all first year college QB's. Hopefully for Lagway, he will only have a few.
    2. Trying too hard. Usually trying to extend a play or make something out of nothing. It takes experience and talent to know when to fold them. Lagway will get to this point soon.
Usually the above two points create setbacks and increase opportunities for injuries.

I am not saying that Lagway needs to be in a plastic bubble.

He needs to get the experience and the opportunites to grow in talent and football smarts at the college football level and hopefully into the NFL.

The game today will be a good test and learning experience for Lagway. He will be facing a very good SEC defense and there will be getting a lot of experience and learning/developing opportunities.

Perfect scenario is the offense scores often and we have an opportunity to bring in #2 for some plays near the end of the game. Not something I expect will happen but that would be a huge benefit moving forward.

    1) Beat Kentucky.

Losses to UGA and Texas are a given.

    2) Beat LSU or Ole Miss

    3) Beat FSU.

    6-6

    Bowl Game

    Napier keeps his job.

    Gator fans are upset.

Not all Gator fans. I would be pleased, and hopeful re: the future, if that scenario played out for the Gators. I’m not optimistic it will play out that way, though. I really hope I’m wrong.
