There should have been a dem primary. Biden would have a tough time winning the nomination after a few debates against other candidates.

Actually, same for trump. He loves attention but still didn’t want to debate Repub candidates. And now against Harris. It’s a close election and we only had one debate. His team knows a debate would show his cognitive decline when the voters see the side by side juxtaposition of Harris vs Trump.

The primary support for Haley from the left doesn't matter. It is the primary support from moderate conservatives who want nothing to do with Trump that really matters. Haley would win in a landslide. The right would be unified behind her.

Republicans were “predicting” hyperinflation going back to the Obama years. Not just regular run of the mill inflation, but hyper-inflation (which is defined as 50% per month). To call them “prophets” on that topic because of one single year of 8% inflation from the post pandemic snapback is absurd. Unless your standard for prophet is that of a broken clock.

I’d say inflation coming out of the pandemic was worse than most “experts” predicted, although some of the dire predictions they did predict never panned out (such as gas shortages due to acute shortage of tanker drivers, that never happened). I think what blindsided people was the housing bubble and food inflation. The supply chain stuff coming out of China was actually predictable, and yes, transitory.

I think the “immigration crisis” is a bit similar. This isn’t something Republicans prophecized so much as something they’ve consistently complained about. Problem is when it comes time to actually improving the situation or doing anything about making the border more orderly, they’ve walked away from two major bipartisan bills that I can remember off the top of my head. Under Obama it was the Gang of 8 bill blown up because of “no amnesty” nutbars and hardliners on immigration, and this time it was basically for no apparant reason at all other than keeping it as a campaign issue.

You are aware that the job lasts for.....a period of time? And that it is possible that people change over......a period of time?

I think you have a bunch of folks in Ukraine that would disagree with you on that one. Probably some NATO leaders as well. If given truth serum, they say they would rather be dealing with President Harris.

You could also call it cable media, mainstream media, or government media—you pick. Fox falls into those categories. NewsMax is not carried by all cable stations.

He definitely had good days and bad days. At times, the drugs worked really well.

You ask these questions, with some level of legitimacy, but are completely unable and unwilling to acknowledge similar and more serious questions about Trump.

Biden in 2024 was a lot more cognitively declined in 2024 vs 2020.

Inflation was a problem, and Biden administration maybe made it 2 pts worse. But you completely ignore the things Trump did in 2020 and what he would have done if elected during COVID,the rest of the worlds inflation and now ignore his highly inflationary proposals.

Democrats and Biden did make the immigration problem worse, because the pre 2021 position for them was immigration wasn’t really a problem. They are accountable for that and are finally adapting. But Trump squashes immigration reform and you just ignore it.

Biden obviously is too old - where that really started in don’t know. Democrats denied and hid it, but have finally admitted it and did something about it. As for Trump and all the crazy things he says, and does, and the clear mental conditions he suffers, now add to that cognitive decline, your response is meh, that’s just Trump being Trump.

I'm not calling it anything, you were, but NewsMax is a corporate media company.

I don’t think any campaign that is in the position that the Trump campaign is in right now would agreed to additional debates. They have polling that shows they are leading in almost all of the swing stakes and think that they have a comfortable road to 270. There’s no reason to throw your opponent a life line as they are drowning, which is what a debate would do. If the Harris campaign was in a similar situation and Trump wanted an additional debate, they would be just as disinterested.

This election I think she would win easily just because of inflation. It’s a layup election for a solid candidate like Haley.

Going forward though I’m not sure how viable candidates like Haley will be for the GOP because she’s not going to be able to keep the deplorables in the GOP tent. That’s the whole reason Trump was successful in 2016. He got the trailer trash to vote for the GOP that was previously staying home. I think that problem returns for the GOP when Trump is out of politics.

Is Trump okay? | The Week

Trump is "beginning to make Biden look like Oscar Wilde", said Lee Siegel in The New Statesman, but there is a "tacit prohibition against discussing Trump's obvious mental incapacity in public". There are "sound reasons" for declining to allege medical conditions in the absence of a diagnosis, but it is also simply harder to discern Trump's cognitive decline than Biden's because of Trump's documented history of eccentric and outlandish behaviour. Ultimately, "the liberal media cried wolf" about Trump's mental acuity in 2016 and now they are "afraid to ring the alarm bells".

That's beginning to change, said The New York Times. It's just that so often has Trump seemed "confused, forgetful, incoherent or disconnected from reality" that it "no longer even generates much attention".

An NYT analysis of Trump's rallies, interviews, statements and social media posts since 2015 shows a distinct change. His speeches have grown "darker, harsher, longer, angrier, less focused, more profane and increasingly fixated on the past", and uses swear words 69% more often, a trend that "could reflect what experts call disinhibition".

    What next?
Trump said in August he would "gladly" publish his medical records – but with less than three weeks to go until the election, his campaign team has yet to release "any basic health data", said Axios.

WaPo calling for age limits in the wake of Donald's cognitive decline.

Opinion | Amend the Constitution to set an age limit for future presidents - The Washington Post

I won’t try to diagnose Trump’s mental state from afar (and for what it’s worth, at Wednesday’s town hall in Georgia, he seemed no more unhinged than usual). But regardless of whether Trump suffers from age-related cognitive decline now, there’s a high risk that sometime in the next four years, he will. Which is why we need a constitutional amendment to prevent someone so old from ever running for president again.

I don’t agree with much of what you said there, except the end conclusion—Biden would be still be the best candidate in a race against Trump, and IMO it’s not even close.
