there are so many WRs out vs UCF you’d think if healthy he would have played. We do rotate alot at every position so that can help him get in the game but..,we also stick to mostly 2-3 WR sets so that limits how many play. Is strange though that we never see him and he isn’t listed on injury reports.

In retrospect, I'm not sure we ever did. I was always happy to see DJ get some significant playing time to be ready when his number was called, while at the same time benefiting from Mertz's leadership. Sure, we can talk about the timing of when he went in, when he came out, what plays were called when he was in, etc. But, as far as playing two QB's, the alternative was much worse. Can you imagine if 1) DJ never played a good number of quality snaps to develop, or 2) DJ played all the time and made a lot of freshman mistakes (like a much higher interception rate)? People here would have moaned about either one of those scenarios all season, too. The QB rotation was not controversial to me.

I think we'd only have to be in it.

Really glad that Lagway has played a decent amount of real game snaps, not just in mop up duty in already decided games as is often the case for backup QBs. I have a good feeling about the trajectory of his career, I think it starts to ascend into higher altitude this weekend. It's a real shame that he has to go against Georgia and Texas in the weeks to follow because that's pretty rough draw for a freshman making his 3rd and 4th starts.

Far better though than when AR got thrown in against Georgia. That move felt vindictive.

That doesn't make sense. If we play 12 games. 30% is 3.6. So if someone played in 4 games they couldn't get a medical redshirt but could get a regular redshirt? Note the link you posted the info is originally from 2022, which predates the 4 game redshirt rule.

NCAA approves medical hardship waiver for Rori Harmon
The University of Texas was notified today that the NCAA has approved a medical hardship waiver for Rori Harmon of Texas women's basketball for the 2023-24 season. Texas played 38 games last year (35-3) including postseason

Harmon had a season ending knee injury 12 games into the 2023-24 season.

Medical and regular are two different things. A medical would mean you’ve already been on campus for 5 years and already burned the redshirt you were given. The threshold SHOULD be more stringent to be awarded a 6th year, imo. He’s not only burned his redshirt, he’s had an extra covid year awarded to him too. He’s played college ball for 6 years. He’s not Tommy Callahan. It’s time to move on.

The example you used is right at the threshold for a sport with a whole lot more games. It’s over, but not by much. 5 out of 12 games is well past the threshold. Call it four if you don’t like 30%, but he’s past that too. I’ve not seen any change to that rule though. If you have something new, post it. I’m not saying the ncaa wouldn’t give him another year, they don’t really enforce any of their rules anymore and they get crushed in court every time they try.

Probably guaranteed, but he's not seeking one.

I agree. I think Dan knew that AR wasn't ready, but the fans were screaming for him to get a try since Emory was struggling mightily. I do believe there was an aspect of "well I'll show you" to that decision.
