He shit is pants again, he couldn’t turn around and walk off the stage because everyone would seen it, so he just stood there and tried to “act natural” until everyone left. It was the right call.

I wonder what our MAGA posters really think when they see this stuff. We're never going to see it on this board, but they have to be freaking out. After Biden's debate disaster I was despondent, so I know how it feels. With Trump now every day, every appearance, is a disaster at that level.

DNC are FOOLS for not putting Trumps insane campaigning histrionics on full display via commercials and You-Tube.

The difference between you and I and supporters of the former president is that we both assumed that if Biden's dismal debate performance in which he obviously appeared cognitively diminished we both thought that his political career was over and although for a somewhat different reason we were correct. Although I cannot speak for the MAGA posters on this board to a lot of Trump's supporters his unhinged rants aren't a weakness but a feature that they admire and even when they believe that Trump is cognitively diminished they believe that it's not a sufficient reason not to support him.

I remember a few days ago one of Trump'a supporters attacked Kamala Harris by comparing her to the Chauncey Gardner character in the movie and novel "Being There". I actually think that applies more to the Trump and his supporters. Rather than an indication of dementia they think that Trump's nonsensical rants are some form of code, an indication that he is a genius. Obviously extremely anecdotal a little while ago I listened to a brief interview with one of the attendees at last night's Trump rally, paraphrasing him he said that it was still an honor to be in the presence of the great man (my words, he actually referred to Trump as the president or President Trump) despite the problems with the rally.

The funniest part is people didn’t know what was going on and stayed for 40 minutes thinking the town hall Q&A would resume at some point… but Trump just keeped dancing like he’s Debbie Deb and it’s 1983.

    This is a great question.

It's easy to write people off as 'thick' when people think differently to ourselves. The best reading I've done suggests it's all to do with paradigms. i.e. the world making total sense to us, within our own bubbles.
If your whole life, your experiences have taught you a certain way of thinking (about anything, not just politics), it's extremely hard to break your own echo chamber and look at yourself critically.

For me, it has always been about critical thinking, empathy and being aware of your own cognitive biases.
As I've gotten older, I ask myself - on what am I basing the opinions I form? It's complex of course, but ultimately, it usually comes down to the values that make us who we are.

If a person can't step back and appraise their own judgements and decisions, that's the biggest problem of all - not politicians scheming to use the systems to their own benefit. A lot of people will act in their own best interests, most of the time.

As for the clip, I have to be honest, that's one of the weirdest things I've seen in a long, long time. Based on the past few months alone, I don't see how anyone could question his wellbeing at this point.

Finally got around to watching the video. At this point I'm kind of feeling bad for him. Also for America if he somehow gets elected. I can only imagine what other world leaders are thinking.

The Trump dementia tour continued yesterday at the Chicago Economic Forum.

He had to deal with an interviewer willing to correct him and it was a sad show.

He was asked about Google and answered about the Virginia voter purge controversy. The interviewer promptly told him that had nothing to do with the question.

He was also pummeled with the very real negative effects of his insane tariff plans.

That one is probably the best examples of the 'political machine' (over critical thinking) for me.

I did Economics and International Business at UF, so perhaps I should bite my tongue...
But generally it's Econ 101 that tariffs tend hit the consumer hardest in terms of increased costs at the point of purchase because businesses will just pass it on.

It perplexes me how someone so senior, so versed in business with so many (presumably) advisors around him simply do not understand this will hurt voters, costing more and limiting consumer choice. Sure, "Government revenues can go towards ... blah blah"... but it effectively becomes a tax on purchases.

(It's perhaps even more troubling that seemingly so many voters completely misunderstand it too and are just willing to buy into it because he says it's so.)

A 20% on all imports? (up to 60% from China, presumably including his Bibles?) A 2000% percent tariff on cars from Mexico?... With every respect, it's mind boggling he can get away with saying any of that and people take it seriously.

At the same time, why the Democrats haven't responded by saying "Donald is raising taxes that hurt you... massively" (because that's what it is!), it bewilders me. If people don't understand this I'd be making this crystal clear - especially if the economy is a key voting issue!

    That's quite the post.
If that's how your politics makes you feel, it's pretty messed up.

My theory is that he could care less about consumer costs. He wants to fatten the federal treasury to plunder it.

    I don't doubt that, GC.

But voters surely must care that things are going to get more expensive? A lot more?
    Why isn't this a dealbreaker?

Holy cow! That was some angry screed. I agree I was over the top in referring to Trump voters as pathetic and apologize for that. I fully understand the anger and frustration of the working class who have been left behind due to increasing income inequality. What I don't understand is why Trump supporters think he will right the playing field and help the common man. The democrats are far more likely to do that. All Trump is doing is playing to your anger and frustration while trashing our democratic norms in his quest to become a dictator.

Thank you for the post. It reminded me to be less vocal about my complete disdain for Trump as a man and as a leader..
