You talking about his false start on the last possession of the first half? Mertz was leading that drive.
No, was trying to figure out if he had another penalty when DJ was playing. 1 critical penalty in 8 snaps is about what I expect from him TBH.
One of my favorite all-time Gators. Watched him play several times at Palatka and few others up around Jax. A beast of a RB. Ask wing about John L, his LB crew had a tough time handling him.
I miss the days when this game was an afterthought on the way bigger and better things. We were a Mertz fumble at the one and yet another special teams screw up from another 10 points and a win.
Me too. Got to know him and later his buddy Neal after doing a bone scan in the fall of 83 at Shands on John L and finding a small broken bone in his foot. Great guy total badazz. He was the top RB in the nation in HS at Palatka and at UF could play RB or FB. He was the only guy (when he played for Seattle) to hold Lawrence Taylor without a sack the year the Giants won it all.
If we get away from the sideway passing game... IMO with DJ and Baugh, we may shock a lot of people and it could be the start of a surprising offense going forward. The key is all in CBN making the decision to openi it up and let the ball fly.
The box will be stacked like cordwood and run blitz unless we bring quick downfield. Which of our receivers are physical fighters to get off the jam for the quick stuff.
i see 3 scenarios. 1) CBN goes conservative the whole game - in which case we lose 17-10 20% chance 2) CBN opens it up the first half and we try and milk the clock 2nd half - we lose 24-21 50% chance. 3) CBN opens it up the whole game and letDJ loose. We win 38-17 odds 30% chance. I'm hoping for 3 and i keep thinking CBN will finally see the light, but history says he doesn't.
It's disappointing how many games we've lost for this lack of execution which comes down to confidence. Knowing your going to make the play instead of hoping. Having a command of the field and sidelines where nothing will stop you. Setbacks are quickly overcome.
