Yes, actually it did. Don't you think that's what a responsible media outlet should do? Talk to an expert about it rather than draw its own conclustions.

I could be wrong, but I'm guessing the Times didn't actually do that.

A little context is helpful. From the NYT's article:

BTW, Rufo's last attempt to break a big story was after the Trump/Vance claim that Haitians were eating pets in Springfield imploded. He posted a video that he claimed showed African immigrants grilling a cat in Dayton. No evidence, of course, just someone musing that it could be a cat. Police and other officials in Dayton denied that the immigrants were eating cats. A vet said it wasn't a cat. Some readers pointed out that it was, in fact, a chicken.

From the NYT “some academics call the claim about plagiarism racist.”

Well, some academics call the fact that I’m a white man alive in the USA racist. Add it to the list  So overblown

Nah, they peaked at Haitians eating cats, which they kept in the news for 3 weeks. This is nothing

I think it's time to create a daily right wing deep fake thread. They tend to fall for every fake image posted in every fake story. I think it's best we just put them all in one place

Yep, that’s all you’re going to get from those freaks obsessed with identity politics ….. and who’ve likely committed plagiarism in their endeavor to be called an “academic”.

Agree. It’s not even really explained. Shouldn’t be there

Actually, I missed what the Times was talking about. It was before that sentence. Rufo has made a habit of exposing plagiarism among black women. He said he's searched writings of white academics, but that plagiarism usually shows up involving blacks.
That's what the academics were referring to.

I wouldn't try too hard in debunking this. If we're being honest, we all know we wouldn't be shocked if this was true, even before the story dropped.

I don't think anyone is going to try to debunk it and claim it simply isn't true. The question is how big a deal it is.

Plagiarism is so easy to do unintentionally! An idea or thought that pops in to your mind--but you might have heard it somewhere else, etc.

However, it appears Rufo is only concerned about minorites.

    From the Times article:

Mr. Rufo said that while he and his colleagues had examined mostly published work by white academics, plagiarism had shown up almost always among papers written by Black scholars, particularly Black women who work in diversity and inclusion.

“We can speculate as to why,” Mr. Rufo said, but he suggested that academic studies that lead to careers in diversity, equity and inclusion were not as rigorous as some others.

Some academics, however, have characterized the campaign as racist.

Considering Joe Biden did plagiarism and is currently president I’m guessing it’s not a big deal to anyone.

Depends. If this is the only incident, it'll probably blow over. Not that it makes plagiarism okay, but that's just the environment we're in right now. However.... if it snowballs into other incidents of plagiarism similar to what Biden experienced in the 1980's, it could knock her down a couple of points and as we know, a couple of points in a race like this is like a thousand points. GOP will start looking harder. More stuff could arise. Not uncommon with plagiarists. Once they've come this far, there's usually more than one incident.

For sake of the NYT and their credibility I hope Rufo’s follow up is not as advertised.

It’s usually not the mistake but the cover up that sinks the ship. One or the other is peddling BS.

You can’t get just a little pregnant and you can’t get just a little plagarism.

Apparently you reject the analysis in the NY Times article in which the article stated that there are different forms of plagiarism. Using an analogy what you're saying is that driving at 75 mph on an Interstate where the posted speed limit is 70 mph is the same as driving at 75 mph through a school zone since both violations involve exceeding the speed limit.
