That's correct but he did leave SC for that reason.

Said "I basically fired myself" in an interview.

wasn't that also the time that a Tennessee defender faked another injury to slow down our momentum? After that happened, couldn't Napier have requested a review of the spot, which I also think was mismarked

I was in undergrad when SOS changed Gators from nothing to champions.
He stated that his goal was to win the SEC every year but for fans that wasn’t enough. Unless you were a fan in the late 50s and early 60s you can’t appreciate what the Old Ball Coach did for UF football.
Recall that he once said that fans booing the Gators were booing him.

Thought about it after the 4th and 1 sweep for a loss, started after the fumble on the goal line.

Wait, are you saying you didn't?

If you're asking someone to step up and take on more responsibilities, like press conferences, "Gator Talk", etc., you have to pay them for this. Wouldn't call it a rule but rather it's been a standard practice with other programs.

against a good and tough Vols team, did anyone on this board have any confidence that they would make any significant plays in the overtime period? i am ashamed to admit that i had zero expectations that they would stop anything the vols offense would call during their overtime possession (mostly because of the terrible 4th quarter)...and sure enough we saw what happened.

not going for 2 after that tenn timeout was a grave error. we had a legitimate chance to steal a win. and had we not converted, at least we would have gone down FIGHTING. As soon as they went for the kick, I knew the eventual outcome of the game...that defense in overtime was tired and definitely no longer able to put up a meaningful fight.

this is a gametime decision that napier deserves to be taken to the fire over and will have to answer for...

    opinions?

How much more could it be? If they are able to pay Billy's buyout, I'm sure they'll be able to pay à smaller bump. IMO, These guys are probably going to take it even without the bump because they are essentially auditioning for their next HC/new boss or new employer.

I agree. I also think he will always drop 3 or 4 games at UF. Recruiting is much more of a national process now for everyone. I'm afraid Kiffin may be a Mullen-level hire.

I never have confidence in our defense or our offensive line anymore. Sometimes I am pleasantly surprised but for now I just don't count on it. The bar is set very low for my expectations of them.

I lived in DC when SOS was there. Danny Snyder was ready to pull the trigger, and Spurrier smelled the coffee. Too proud to get fired, but he knew his offense wasn't working.

    True.

but I think the point may have been that Spurrier knew this and resigned and gave up $15 million by not waiting to get fired a few weeks down the road. That is extremely rare thing to do. Billy could really help the program by doing the same thing and giving up the $27 million if he instead gets fired. It is not realistic that he will do so but Spurrier did.

being honest…I’d want my $15 million - or some part of it to walk away. That is a lot of scratch.

There was some contention about it in the game thread. After watching multiple replays, it was definitely a clear fumble by Mertz. It was a very odd position he was in. He was perpendicular to the ground all stretched out. No part of his body was touching the ground except for his feet until a split second after the ball was pulled loose. Then his knees and elbows touched, without the ball, unfortunately. Bizarre play and a really BIG one in the game.
