Gators faked an injury last night. You all know the play I’m talking about. Full sprint, shoestring tackle-our defender pops right up after the tackle, looks to the sideline for a full second and then goes down as if shot by a .50 cal rifle. In the moment I think, he tore an abdominal when he dove to make the tackle.
Nope, two plays later he’s back at full sprint chasing a running back.

For some reason I had turned down the announcer volume prior to this sequence so not sure if they commented. (And I did like the broadcaster duo, I thought they were fair to both sides). It seemed obvious to me, an old Gator in his dotage watching from his central Florida basement.:D

Not possible. We are UF. We are too good for this stuff.

Does it really matter? This has been done since the beginning of football. Without coaching to do it, players will sit on the field for a breather. It can't be enforced because refs have no idea if it is a cramp or a shot to the midsection, and in either case the player could be back in the game almost immediately. This is only an issue to gimmicky offenses that get exposed and only is an issue for their fans until they hire their next coach.

Oh I agree. It happens I get it. It’s just that some got bent out of shape when Ole Miss did it, writing that that is something the Gators just would not do. Let the bacon fly, but I don’t think we are a holier than thou program.
We’re just not as bad as a select few;)

It’s funny and kinda true. I’ve always said one of UF’s issues is it’s ego.

A journalist (don't know who) once stated Gator fans have the arrogance of Notre Dame and history of Wake Forest.

After a quick Google search, apparently it was written in the 1970s by a sportswriter named Dan Jenkins so some of that has been washed away by the SOS and Meyer era.

Probably a cramp, as George Gumps, is solid muscle and a player who gives it up on every play.. Not faking

That would have had to be in the 80s or earlier. Haven’t had the “history of Wake Forest” for some time.

George Gumps is Forrests cousin? George Gumb is a great find by the gators and I'm glad we got him. But most players will hit the deck if the coaches tell them too.

I believe he wrote for Playboy magazine in the 60s and early 70s.

As they should, IMO. It's well known part of defensive strategy and slowing down a fast or no huddle offense. Do what the coaches tell you unless it's Mickey Andrews garbage.

Were Gator fans arrogant back then? I'm 41 so don't know much about the era pre-Spurrier other than what I read online.
