Bobby Moreau calling a critical 15 yard personal foul penalty on Dallas Baker, giving the Vols new life. SEC later said the penalties should have been offset. Combine that with not correctly restarting the clock, it gave Tennessee 43 seconds rather than 10-15 seconds along with the 15 extra yards. Grrrrrrrr....
As maddening as that was at the time, you make a good point! Hoping that some of the anger we’re feeling this season turns the same way! Go Gators!!
It was the 3rd or 4th game after the Swindle tho 9 months later. At the time it felt like all the refs were just trying to screw us. Like the sec refs saw our protests against the Swindle and said “Don’t mess with our officiating brothers.” We will screw you out of another game! And they did.
I was at that game in Neyland. Still can't believe what I saw. UF is 17-2 in the series since then though.
Same with losing Will Grier to PEDs. If we don't, its very likely we go to the SEC championship that year and very likely either a national title game or BCS bowl. (Or NY6 cant remember which one it was at that point) Mac is thought of as the next Urban Meyer and isn't exposed as a moron who thinks S&C is optional in DI football. Mullen is likely pulled away by some other D-I program and the drought is even worse and not lessened by a Peach Bowl victory and nearly a Heisman season. Also glad in retrospect that USC lost to Notre Dame in 2012 because if not, we probably go to the national title game and people think everything is right and good under Muschamp as the team doesn't finally get exposed against Louisville after skating by in so many games, getting basically EVERY 50/50 ball that year, and most of the 60/40 and 70/30 that really should have gone to the other team, Matt Elam basically wins the game against LSU single handedly, and we nearly lose to Lousiana Munroe the same season. Even if we get blown out in the title game, that would be excused easily as were clearly on the right track.
It was a horrible call, criminal really. UF also lost a game at Auburn decades ago when a FG by Brian Clarke that was good was ruled no good. Can’t remember the year but it was pre-Sourrier I believe.
This is my coping mechanism for the loss yesterday. If Florida wins that, it would have messed up UF's meteoric rise that starts next season
It's hard to understand how the ref standing in between the two could watch one and throw a flag on the other. And people wonder why gators sometimes have a persecution complex. The Swindle. The Auburn "fumble " and subsequent somersault into the endzone. The Georgia spot placement. It goes on and on
Another reason that Spurrier was such a great coach. He knew this and made sure that we tried to score so many points that a crooked or stupid officiating decision wouldn't be as impactful to the game. That and the refs knew that he wouldn't be shy about calling them out publicly.
I can agree with much of what you said, but in no world did I ever think Mac was even close to the next Urban Meyer... never, ever.
Does anyone else think that it is strange for a major university (maybe that's a stretch) to repeatedly sing a song at all of their football games that celebrates the murder of two law enforcement officials?
