This is such a weird criticism. How dare he think the roof built to take those winds would actually do what it was designed to do!

It was built to withstand 115 mph winds in 1990. You wouldn’t have any concerns with a Cat 3 storm approaching and a 34 year old roof?

I would way those concerns compared to the Courtney Campbell washing out (as an example).

Hindsight isnt always a fair way to judge.

The line item veto pen for modernization of pumping stations and storm water mitigation isn’t looking too smart right now.

I have spent my life divided between two states. Both get regular crushing by hurricanes.

The government cant really do much.
I didnt blame our liberal governor when we had 1000 year flooding here because of Hurricane Florence. My organization is STILL helping in that regard 6 years later because the government money has long since moved on.

Every storm is so unique and rare to any exact place that even great planning falls well short.

What seems like a good political decision in one place...(Tropicana Field before a storm) can seem bad when bad gusts rips a hole that compromises the whole roof.

But then had the Courtney Campbell washed out or the roads around Amalie arena flooded trapping workers inside, people would have screamed that the leaders should have put people at the Trop.

Its a crap shoot with these storms

    Thats just the fact

Look, I'm nit picking because he is such a prick. Are Pubs the only ones who are allowed to make mountains out of mole hills?

I'll also add, that at the time the decision was made to put them there, the eye of the storm was predicted to be coming right thru that area as a Cat 4, with wind gusts well over 150 mph. So regardless of what it was rated for, predictions at the time the decision was made should have warned him of the potential.

And everyone should know now, and should have known then, that storms like that have the potential to spawn tornadoes ahead of them.

If he wants to act the tough guy and claim he is totally in charge, he needs to accept the consequences of any bad decisions he made.

I 100% guarantee if that had been a Dem that made that decisions we would be hearing non-stop how bad a decision it was, and from the extreme right they would be claiming he did it on purpose to "kill them".

Listen, I agree. I hate the whole scene. I used to love politics, hearty debate etc. now the whole system makes my skin crawl.

I mentioned Gov Cooper here in NC. It drove me crazy how all the pubs tried to politicize hurricane Florence.

Meanwhile Pubs and Dems, rich and poor, black and white, straight and gay, Christians and atheists... all had water up to their rooftops.

I called it out then too.

I'm not a fan of DeSantis, but he was at least engaged leading up to the storm and provided useful information. Far cry from what we're seeing from Trump and MTG and others pushing lies and conspiracies. I figured DeSantis would go back to things like attacking Micky Mouse once things calmed down.

You said you’ll “stay quiet” but then you go a four paragraph rant. Next time stick to your guns and stay quiet.

I live in Sarasota and from my view, DeSantis did a good job with his preparation for Milton and now the recovery phase. As a whole, our area was very fortunate to have as little damage as we did being we took a direct hit from a Category 3 hurricane.

I watched all the models for days and never saw one reliable prediction showing a Cat 4 landfall in that area.

The accurate models all had it weakening to the 120mph range.

I also doubt the Governor decides logistical plans for the deployment of first responders personally.
No more than Biden decides where FEMA responders stage and deploy.

    Carry on with the hate.

    I agree 100%.

So it's weird that all the DeSantis nuthuggers are out thanking him that the storm weakened, and that his personal fortitude guided them through the hard times.

Even as they parrot Trumpy conspiracy theory BS that Biden - er, Harris, I guess- failed with FEMA and gave all our money to illegal immigrants.

To be fair though, I do remember all those cultists on the left praising Biden for personally overseeing the Helene response.

    Wait....no I don't. Because they're not in a cult.
