How many times do you have to be told that DeSantis's office leaked the story in the first place? Then Kamala was asked about the story. It's really not that hard to understand. And now you're saying DeSantis isn't playing politics with his comments about FEMA? What a joke.

Can you point out where Kamala said DeSantis is doing a terrible job?

I reread it but still didn't see it. Can you point out to me where she said he's doing a terrible job? I only saw where she said he was playing politics.

Do you understand how disingenuous you sound? So, it is not that he is being blatantly partisan, but the fact that he said it out loud, or uses poor "PR communication strategy". Is that code word for "alternate truth"?

OK, I'll try and break down what I mean. DeSantis' operations folks are prepping and going through the What If's and the question comes up "How do we handle a situation where we a local sheriff having a disagreement with a FEMA GS-15 on what to do? How do we make sure that everyone know that the Florida officials are in charge and they orders are the ones to be followed?" They call in the PR Comms folks and tell them to draft up talking points for the principal that make it clear, when the situation arises where there is a disagreement between a Florida official and a FEMA official, the FEMA official has to defer to the Florida official. That is the PR Comms strategy to deal with these situations.

There are going to be a lot of hot, tired, and stressed out officials over the next week. Tempers are going to flare over disagreements on what the best course of action is. It happens. A lot of reasonable and smart people can disagree when they are making tough decisions under those conditions. This is why the chain of command is established well ahead of time and in this case, whether you agree with him or not or like how he phrased it or not, DeSantis PR comms strategy is making it clear that FEMA officials need to defer to Florida officials when disagreements occur. It doesn't matter if it is a GS-15 FEMA official disagreeing with a rookie FHP officer, the FEMA GS-15 will follow the FHP officer's direction.

So, it's not a PR gap, it's distrust of FEMA and the federal government. And a continuation of a partisan battle that DeSantis and Abbott have been waging against Democrats over the last several years.

So, in a disaster cleanup, trained FEMA personnel should defer to a rookie FHP officer who has no clue as to what he/she is doing? Working against FEMA is not in the best interest of Florida citizens that have been impacted by Milton. But I do agree with DeSantis that waiting for FEMA to clear up debris is stupid when they take so long. But that is about all I would agree with him on. He should work in coordination with FEMA, not against them.

But listening to DeSantis today, he has calmed down his rhetoric and given the impression that the state of Florida will work with FEMA, not against them. So, it looks like common sense is prevailing over his first instinct partisan rhetoric.

DeSantis is the supported effort and it is his right, as the supported effort, to say how he wants to run this effort and how he is going to communicate that. He is making it clear that yes, FEMA trained personnel have to defer to Florida officials, even if it is a rookie FHP officer. If it does not work out, DeSantis has to take the blame.

That would be true if he was saying that off camera to his and FEMA crews.

That wasn't what happened. He was on a televised briefing, and spewing anti-Fed crap.

Your back must hurt for bending over backwards to excuse that Little Ronnie.

Stupid interpretation and a stupid comment.

No one has said fossil fuels created hurricanes. They are correctly saying that the increased warming of the oceans is making the hurricanes more intense and more dangerous than ever before.

How do you expect DeSantis to say that off camera and ensure it reaches every Florida official and FEMA official involved in this effort? I thought that is what televised briefing were meant for.

Really? You honestly believe that? Because as a military guy I'm pretty sure you know how communications work with a chain of command. Do you honestly believe everyone of those officials and FEMA folks were listening to that briefing? I assure you, they had more important things to do than listen to little Ronnie be the big man. And I'll also assure you that the lines of command were discussed in detail in private briefings well before the storm ever hit.

The main purpose of televised briefings like that is to ensure the public that everything is being done to support them to give them hope and help prevent panic.

Anyway, go ahead and believe he wasn't trying to win cheap political points with his grandstanding.

You did not answer the question. How was DeSantis suppose to say that off camera to every Florida and FEMA official involved in the effort, like you said he should?

Actually it is not. So please explain to me, as someone that has done a lot of these operations and understands how these things go, what course of action was DeSantis suppose to take to reach out to every single Florida official and every FEMA official off camera in under 48 hours to ensure that all understood that Florida officials were in charge. Was he supposed to do a series of joint VTC's with each Fl region and the FEMA team that was designated for that region? Was he suppose to go to each FEMA preposition site and speak with each of them directly? Was he suppose to go to travel to every city and county that was likely to be affected and speak with their Police leadership and Sheriff's office? Please tell me the course of action you think that DeSantis should have taken to ensure that his guidance as the supported effort was made clear to everyone involve in under 48 hours.
