So quit whining and propose an amendment. I seem to recall it wasn’t that long ago it was the Democrats who refused to get rid of the electoral college because it was a guaranteed, often decisive 50+ electoral votes from California even with only, say, 52% of the state’s popular vote.

No need to get rid of it. Rather, electoral votes should be proportional for each state rather than winner take all. That way everyone’s voice is heard including liberals in places like Alabama and conservatives in places like California.

This is the way. Do it as constitutional amendments. Could we get Florida to approve it? Doubtful

 

Now this is an idea that’s more doable under existing law and makes the process more fair. Winner of the state’s popular vote gets the two Senate seat votes and proportion of the House votes rounded up to the nearest one. That would also enable other parties to fairly compete for a proportion of electoral votes and negotiate with the major parties over whom their voters ultimately cast for.

I don’t think this is one of those things you can decide state by state. They all have to do it, or it doesn’t work. Imagine the hue and cry if California generously offered to divide its votes proportionally while Texas says, “Nah, ‘round here. We’re winner takes all (and we know who that winner is, don’t we?) But nice chattin’ with you. Ya’ll come back now.” Or vice versa.

 

Is there an alternative? Are you proposing, say, “fixing” the U.S. Constitution the way Napoleon “fixed” the French Constitution?

More like we did something right. Entitled maga can’t take credit for that. If anything they are the threat to our great country as they tried to break it (Jan 6).

I only ask because I was under the assumption that only two thirds of the house could actually propose an amendment. I guess an internet poster can too!

 

Anyone can propose an amendment to their member of Congress, which is not much more difficult than whining on a message board about a matter that can only be amended Constitutionally. Only 2/3 of both Houses can pass an amendment. But I’m sure you already knew that.

 

Tough day at the office? I say that because you don't usually come off in such a way. On topic, do you think the EC reflects the will of the majority?
