I would agree with the majority of what you posted. The highlighted part is where details matter. The Russian Trolls farms in '16 were often cited as some major effort by Russians to interfere in the election and used to say that they had an impact on the outcome of the election. It's been a while but if I remember correctly, the Russian oligarch that funded them only spent an estimated $225k to $1M on them. It is extremely hard to argue that a Troll Farm with that budget had any impact on the outcome of the election in any swing state. Yes, Russian interfere there was not a hoax. Claiming the Troll Farms changed the outcome of the election is not accurate.

I would agree that it's impossible to determine whether or not Russian interference had any impact on the 2016 election. That being said the Russians sure as hell tried and whether or not the Trump campaign colluded with the Russians is a matter of definition Trump and the boys sure as hell encouraged the Russians.

Do you think the Russian Troll Farms' content had an impact on the outcome of the election?

I'm not sure the budget matters that much. What's the overhead on a troll farm? If I recall correctly the original Russian Internet Research Agency was like 100 ppl in one building or something like that. Outside of paying those people and having computers with internet, everything else is free. A lot of what was spread was Russian misinformation, and I'm not sure how anyone could possibly gauge how much that affected an election. But we still see it daily, so there has to be some return on it.

Now it's even cheaper I assume, as it's less humans and more AI.

Also, the original Russian troll farm was funded by the Wagner Group. And only ceased operations when he marched on the Kremlin I think

The Trump and Clinton campaigns were spending 10's to 100's of millions of dollars attempting to do digital micro-targeting of voters in the swing states with political ads developed by some of the best professional political ad makers. You think that a Russian Troll Farm spending $1M dollars is going to be able to produce content that is effective in finding and engaging voters than the Clinton and Trump campaigns?

I never saw a thread for it, so maybe I missed it, but has anyone talked about Russia using shell companies to pay right-wing influencers like Tim Poole and Benny Johnson?

Absolutely. It's why every marketing company in the world wants their stuff to go "viral" and what goes "viral" has nothing to do with budget.

Yes. And then like 3 days later a poster here quoted Benny Johnson as a source.

    1. Interesting article, nowhere in it does it say which side or the other was promoted. It does say the bots were used to promote misinformation.

    2. How much will you pay me to stop posting?

A Russian Troll Farm made of foreigners who have English as a second language are going to come up with something that is going to sway voters better than professional, American political ad makers with $10M to $50M to spend? You honestly think that is realistic?

I absolutely do because they're sending a message different than Trump or Biden. We saw it, and still see it, to this day. Russian disinformation. Budget doesn't matter near as much with social media. All it takes is the algorithm.

I'm not going to sit here and claim it swung an election. But it absolutely resonated with a certain segment on social media.

FYI, a lot of research went into this after the election and it was found that this Troll Farm had no discernable affect on the voters they interacted with.

I'll say this, I'm specifically referring to 2016. This was Russia's first attempt at doing this and it was not particularly sophisticated. They have had 8 years to get better at it and it is clear that they are trying to do that. It is why USCYBERCOM is still taking this very seriously.

In fairness perhaps I myself am projecting backwards to 2016 based on what I see today. The original article I posted is based off a CMNF report in collaboration with a lot of other foreign agencies.

Justice Department Leads Efforts Among Federal, International, and Private Sector Partners to Disrupt Covert Russian Government-Operated Social Media Bot Farm

It may have although I cannot conclusively say that it made a difference. If it did make a difference it was probably the fictional personas who purported to be left of center Democrats who were able to suppress the vote by emphasizing the way the DNC screwed Bernie Sanders by putting in the fix for Hillary rather than the pro-Trump bots.

As strategic thinker Greg Copley has noted, China did 1000X more than Russia to influence the last election. They released COVID for example.

Yel5sin would not have been elected without US interference in the Russian election. US interference made the election close enough that Yeltsin's backers could steal it in the vote count. Per Stephen F. Cohen, RIP.

The US interferes in elections all over the world. The same techniques the Deep State uses globally are now used by the Deep State to elect Democrats in America.

Yeah, but you'd have to post like a nonsensical, conspiracy theorist. rabid, pro-Russia Trumpy shill.

As I said, it's pretty obvious some here are being paid.

You are a grown adult and possibly a UF grad, correct? But you can't figure out which side Russia and Russian bots are actively helping?

Just think back to 2016 and which campaign Russia actively helped, and which campaign knowingly accepted that help.

You know- the one that you voted for.
