They absolutely clean up after him on MSM. To see his craziness you have to access other types of media. Please remember that media is a for profit business in this country. He’s good for clicks and tax cuts for their CEOs.

BTW, the NYT is NOT the Times of yesteryear. You’ve obviously not read any of their stuff lately. In addition, Peter Baker is their resident conservative voice.

Well, if they are a for-profit business, it would seem to me that the more outlandish crazy and weird things Trump says would get more clicks.

why would they sanitize his statements? This makes no sense to me as the MSM is now the editor of all things Trump? People may claim it but I’ve never seen it. For 4++ years the MSM ran with - as did many on this board- that Trump said Nazis were very fine people. Now that’s been completely discredited. Anyone claiming they are cleaning up Trump’s words is peeing on your leg and telling you it’s raining.

Ya see, if he were a moron, or insane.....his speeches would come across as totally normal, and wouldn't need to be treated specially to cause them to seem rational.

    Make sense to everyone now?

    Pick a lane.

if the race isn't close, it loses eyeballs and advertising revenue.

djt has lost it as bad or worse then biden has and he isn't being challenged on it the way biden was or having it made headline news like biden was
if the race is decided, maybe the advertising support for djt slows up...just like the acc refs keeping scum in the playoffs, the msm has a vested interest in making it a close race

For reference, here is the clip CBS promoted for the 60 Minutes interview on X and Face the Nation on Sunday. And as you can see on Youtube, CBS removed a lot of this from what actually aired Monday night during the 60 Minutes broadcast on CBS. They also deleted Kamala's meandering answer from the interview transcript they posted online. Hence, the calls for CBS to release the unedited transcript:

‘We do not control CBS's production decisions’

^^^ and guarantee you someone from her campaign asked CBS to remove it. There's no other plausible explanation for the clip they posted to promo the show a day earlier and most of it being missing from the actual broadcast. Sure, CBS was complicit, but I don't believe someone did that on their own volition. Harris campaign saw the interview and freaked out.

    Strawman?

    I never respond that way.

I think Trump expresses his policy positions very poorly more often than not. The appeal to him is his policy for me.

The problem with Kamala is that she has nothing. She’s distancing herself from Biden while pretending she has no regrets from this administration. She says that her values haven’t changed, but she sounds a whole lot different now than she did when she campaigned in 2020.

She could do what Trump is basically doing, which is pointing to his record as President, but she’s not doing that because right or wrong, her campaign perceives that strategy as a losing strategy. So all we have left is vibes and what she says. And she’s not very good at that.

Well first of all, most of the MSM outlets that people think of including MSNBC now have Trumper CEOs.

Second, Trump rambles in a degenerative mental stream of consciousness. For video clips or in the written word, they edit it down to something marginally understandable. For printed headlines, they summarize his insanity into something cogent.

And you ask why? Because a dull and effective presidency like Biden's doesn't drive news cycles like Trump does. He longs for media attention so he gives them reasons to provide it.

    Your tinfoil hat needs adjusting.

Promos for movies, tv shows and interviews often contain things that the actually broadcast item does not. There is no indication that the campaign controlled what they chose.

Times has been sliding. I’m a subscriber and know they do good work but I’m starting to wonder if they aren’t giving Trump too much leeway in case he gets elected while being much harsher on Kamala.

How is the Times sliding? Any particular issues you would highlight on where its coverage is changing?

Yea. I could google what I remember reading but basically I find them with pointed criticism of Harris’ policies and let’s Trump slide on his nonsense repackaging what he says as if it were more sound than it is.

They are still the best investigative reporting in the world.

    What does that even mean?
First, Trump doesn't point to his record as Prez. He just makes shit up about the economy and immigration. Those are the only talking points he has. Why would Kamala point to her record as Prez when she is not prez?

So one person, formerly of the Chicago Tribune, has an opinion that the New York Times is wrong. Wow that’s some shocking evidence.
