Armstrong was back on the sidelines against UCF and the defense played a lot more aggressively. GNFP speculated based on what we have seen thus far that the D looked much more like last year than this year to date. Also, probably the best D film in a very long time. Armstrong called a great game vs UT last year, do we see it again?
How hard would it be to call defense vs ucf? Run, run, pass. How many runs that began up the middle with a few jet sweeps. Frankly, most GC posters could have called the D, stack the line and play single coverage since they don't throw often or well. Maybe he called the D, but this was not a complicated O we were facing.
It was more about the defensive attitude in the first half. Like I said they played like Spikes was running the show.
Rivalry game? In Knoxville? Tennessee coming off a loss? Yeah, unfortunately I think Tennessee goes in looking to make an example out of us.
UTk was looking really good until you look back at their schedule. They lost to unranked Ark, beat a 3-3 NC State, and beat OU. They’ve been held to 25 and 14 points in the last two games against legitimate opponents. We may very well get boat raced if our D regresses, but nothing about UTk accomplishments to date impress as a top 10 team. UCF looked really good until they were exposed. I think this game comes down to two factors. Our D playing to their abilities and the health of the UTk WR/DL groups.
I think the defensive game plan is similar to the one we had with UCF. Bear front to stop their run. Man to man on the outside and make Nico beat us with his arm. The only thing that worries me is if Heupel decides to let Nico run as he’s more than capable and we tend to struggle with shifty QBs.
Tenn coming off a loss, maybe they are ready, maybe not. We're coming off of a win, which may help us. Coaching and home field advantage to UT, unless and until our staff changes that. We have a shot. At least for the love of god, staff can make it look like they made an A plan, and a B plan, in case A isn't working.
No shot. It SHOULD be exactly like last year with the 3 man tite front to stuff any inside run and force everything wide.
I wonder - they may be a tad demoralized coming off the loss. That may have burst their bubble for a #4 ranked team to get dumped by an unranked team. Counterpoint: I’d hate to be South Carolina this weekend!
You would think, yet aTm was allowed to run the ball down our throats the whole game with no adjustment.
Play man to man against the vols and stack the line. We want to force them to throw the ball. Get after the QB and force him into some Joe Milton moments.
