What the heck was going on at the end of the UCF game. It’s like Malzon gave up with Several minutes left. His team which is known to run up-tempo slowed down to a crawl. If I were a UCF fan, I would be outraged. Must’ve been some betting lines somewhere…

I was wondering the same thing. I kept thinking about what might be going on behind the scene.

Malzon did not follow what he normally does. For example, when he wins the coin toss he usually takes the ball first (announcers kept talking about that). They never really ran up tempo from what I understand and the clock management at the end of the game was atrocious.

That is what I was saying in the stands. Just keep running that clock.

I think it's the same trap that Napier gets in. He figured the only way they win that game is if they score a touchdown that first drive to make it 24-10 in the third, get a quick 3 and out, and then go back to work.

One of the reasons is it looks like Jefferson may have actually regressed as a passer and he was already bad. On top of that they do not have a dynamic playcaller so they really only have one way forward. With that said, they needed to figure something out because they closed the door on themselves.

Gus and Billy are cut from the same cloth. Watching the stupid crap I saw Saturday night from both teams. The epitome of "A battle of wits between two unarmed men. " Monty Python wasn't as inane.

Yeah I said in the other thread it was like UCF was up by 2 scores and trying to bleed clock.
Why would you run the play clock down to single digits with less than 300 left? And try those short runs instead of medium passes.

I remember Muschamp did the same thing against us in maybe 2020- a long time consuming drive in the 4th quarter.

I'll say it again- football coaches can't do math!

Malzahn said he knew they would have to be able to run the ball against us to win. I think if you read between the lines, he knew if they put it in the air, we’d intercept the ball, and he was right.

Jefferson looked like he gained a ton of weight and out of shape.

KJ has regressed as a passer. I’m not sure why they didn’t put the backup in if they don’t trust him to throw.

I was at the game and felt relieved and a bit puzzled when UCF didn’t play with urgency in the last qtr. I was thinking that they were playing right into our hands running so much then lollygagging up to line of scrimmage. It occurred to me that Gus just doesn’t have confidence in Jefferson. I thought I saw a different QB warming up on the sidelines early in the 4th quarter but not sure.

    Young QB choke.

Hope he doesn't learn. Hope he doesn't bounce back but instead gets no sleep staying up reading social media comments.

Well yes, but with 3 minutes to play, and needing 2 scores, you would think he would run no huddle or uptempo.
And mix in passes and runs, trying to catch up out of position.
Instead UCF ran short runs up the middle and bled clock.

Its like they could run slow developing run plays and be certain to lose, or try mixing it up and at least have a sliver of chance to win.
Granted the odds were long either way.
And yes- sorry but Muschamp did something similar against us in 20 I believe.

In 1972, UF QB David Bowden ran out of bounds late in the 4th quarter to stop the clock and keep the drive going. Unfortunately, he did not get the 1st down. Doug Dickey never put Bowden on the field again. The Don Gaffney era began.

I sense a pattern here. Namely, a player named "Bowden" shouldn't be QB at UF, and a former Utoothless coach shouldn't be coaching at UF.

I would like to have been in the room when the powers that be decided that kicking Graves upstairs to make room for Dickey was a good idea. That must have been a really interesting conversation.

His failure to throw when he absolutely had to, also followed a decision by Hefty Heupel to allow the Pigs to waltz into the endzone uncontested for the winning TD.

Curious stuff, when you put it all together.

I really like that moniker, Hefty Heupel. First time I’ve heard it. If you coined that Claygator you are very clever.
