add to that a running QB. But bama got shredded by a running QB. The only way to win such games is to able to score with them.,

We held them to 108 yards rushing & 2.7 per - great stats no matter who, but this was their bread & butter which we stopped.

It was a good game to get him involved. Iirc he tackled the qb who i was certain was going to get more yards than Chiles allowed. He shows promise.

This game was another example of Napier’s inadequacy as a Head Coach. His Gator teams consistently have a problem putting together two halves in a single game.
Last night, we saw two different offenses….an efficient one in the first half and a completely opposite one in the second half. Same for the defense….shut down the run in the first half, had trouble doing so in the second half.
Thank goodness Malzahn did such a poor job of recognizing what would work against the Gator D.
Beginning this week, we’ll see what Napier has wrought. I feel our only chance for a victory in the homestretch will be the tussle between two former powerhouses in Tally.

Perhaps, but I do think there's something to be said for an offense helping out a defense.

Looking at the play by play, Cal kept passing in second half, up 20. Pick 6, 3-5 and out punt short drives.

But hey, at least they went for the jugular, right! Pedal to the medal, baby!

  7. Although I am NOT a CBN fan whatsoever, watching our Defense sack Jefferson 5X as well as our OL not give up any sacks was definitely an improvement.

Yeah refs couldn’t let UM lose.

Plus Cal went prevent O and prevent D 4th Q

Looking at the second half play-by-play, their offense kept passing. Leading to a pick six and a couple of very short drives.

I'll be if they did indeed go into a prevent offense, they would have won.

Meh I watched the whole second half. Some of it may have been UM getting to their QB more.

Certainly they back off on D in the 4th Q

The Non Targeting call clearly gave UM the chance to win and on the next play (after the punt) Cal went zone which the announcers said was the first time all night. Gave up like a 70yrd pitch and catch. Dumb.

The answer is never. The definition of insanity is to keep doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results. Sometimes we just have to accept he is not up to the job and so we’re never going to be a complete team in any way as long as he is at the helm. It was he himself who coined the “scared money” phrase. Well he was clearly playing with scared money in the second half last night and you saw the results.

We all know what most Florida fans want to see. After weeks and weeks without seeing it, putting up a goose egg on offense in the 2nd half at home against an unranked and athletically inferior defense is just more of the same. I’m glad we won, but it’s not like it will matter if we fail to go at least .500 in conference play.

I believe that play is a play highlighted in film snippet in an article today on read and reaction. The qb was to read the lb- if he drops to take away the slant to Boardingham, you throw it side ways to Montrell who will have space to run for first down. If the LB goes to the flat to cover Montrell an easy toss on slant to Boardingham for the first down. The linebacker covered the flat and the QB made the poor choice to throw to the covered RB in the flat, while the TE was wide open for easy slant and first down. Basically the complete opposite of what the play is designed for.

I think you may have scared the qb with your yelling and startled him into throwing the sideways pass. That or it was a poor read.

We won the game. I can understand if we were Cal and going conservative caused us to lose the game. This proves that running clock works, but yes…Offense was bad in the second half.

I do not think rotating QBs is the answer as well. The offense was stagnant in the 2nd half.

Pick a QB and just ride them out, but what do I know.

Agreed. Any freshman QB that is good enough to be getting this many reps in lieu of a senior QB should be starting and playing all snaps. Otherwise, you're delaying the development of your future for a guy you are already comfortable taking drives away from. But, I don't think it matters much in the grand scheme. Lagway can't do it all. We could win a lot more games with either of them at QB with more competent coaching.
