Ah, the note. Way more incriminating than whispering in someone's ear.

No, but this is what I read the troubles me:
 Are recovery leaders distributing resources based on community needs where underserved communities may receive a greater number of resources to achieve parity across all impacted areas?
They have identified areas/communities that get priority for resources based on certain demographics.

Have you seen anything real that indicates that is slowing down recovery efforts from Helene? Something more real than social media posts from extremely partisan annd untrustworthy people?

I’m in Western NC now on way to my brothers who finally has potable water. The plan is to ask him who he is voting for and if he gives the right answer I’ll help him clean up quickly but if he answers wrong I’m going to move more slowly. o_O

The area has been devastated, people have left their homes and left the area. Its easy to understand why outsiders are not being let in so that the risk of looting is diminished. When an event gets declared a Federal Incident, the Feds TAKE OVER. They coordinate with state and locals but they are in charge. I’ve experienced a teeny bit of Federal Incident Management in action by working on a couple of wildfires. To fight the fire personnel have to have minimal level of training, their trucks have a minimal size and age requirements that have to be met for example. Local civilians aren’t allowed to just pull up to the fire line and volunteer. There is a guy in charge and he directs Fire Chiefs, helicopter pilots, Sheriff deputies, contractors, and everyone else involved.
And that, i think, maybe what people are reacting to. Couple that with the fact that its going to take 3-4 days or more before FEMA arrives and i doubt mountain residents are as prepared for that as are Floridians and that gap has allowed these theories to flourish. My $.02 worth.

It doesn’t help that lunatics closely tied to trump are handing out advice like this. As a reminder she is trump’s special “friend” and was, for a time, traveling with him on the campaign.

Do you guys understand that they are handing out $750 to just about anyone affected -- to cover immediate living expense while they process the rest of their claim(s) .... this isn't a FEMA flood insurance settlement for their loses, if they had flood insurance. They should also have homeowner's insurance to cover other damages and losses. Plus, FEMA will have additional programs to help people even if they don't have insurance claims.

As someone who lives very close to damaged and condemned communities along the coast, I can assure you, based on the community facebook posts, that the $750 is mostly appreciated by the people who need money now to survive. FEMA and other recovery efforts are happening all over the area.

FEMA isn’t giving Hurricane Helene survivors just $750 | verifythis.com

In large part because the humans tragedy unfolding in New Orlesns was easiy to be shown, any reporter could get there with an interview, and the super dome debacle brought it all to light. Not to mention half the country knew the places they were showing, which made ut more relatable.
And yes the intersection of race, class, status etc on who was stuck in the nightmarish conditions and who died was also very important and said a lot on it’s own.
