I always thought it hypocritical that the press made a big deal accusing Spurrier of running up the score on teams because he continued to run his offense, albeit with second and third string players, but Nebraska ran up ungodly scores on opponents. Nebraska didn’t throw much in the late stages of the routs but, they didn’t throw much anyway. They ran their offense. Same as Spurrier did. Only difference was that Nebraska’s offense was run heavy.

They just didn’t like Spurrier because he was different.
It didn’t help he coached us. The RUTS thing was just a convenient excuse to bash him.
Funny how both Meyer and Spurrier were hated by the media. Almost like they hate any Florida coach who wins.

They loved Bowden though. Bless his soûl. But the media bias irked me to no end.

Again, two totally different topics of discussion. Verbal barbs do not make someone a douche bag. Man I’m beginning to wonder how many of y’all were actually around during Spurrier’s reign of terror, vs. reading someone’s version of it after the fact

And Spurrier had nothing to do with The Flop. In my opinion it was a classless thing to do - but it was against scUM so that makes it alright :D

Dude, The Flop was on Doug Dickey, arguably the worst coach we ever had, not Steve Spurrier

Tilly has a Kiffin man Krush, and is trying to sort together events from 50 years ago to justify Kiffin's past and present behavior. Lame.

If UF wants to hire Kiffin, I will support him as I do all of our coaches, but I think hiring him is a big mistake.

Everyone makes mistakes. But Kiffin has a long and tawdry string of them.

And given the stupid comparisons of Kiffin to Spurrier, I would ask this question: why hasn't Kiffin proved it yet? He's had top coaching jobs at schools with major resources. What's he waiting for?

I can assure you that had Spurrier gotten the job at USCw or even Ole Miss, he would have torn it up.

Can we leave him out of everything? It's always either some inane comparison or a garbage hypothetical where they just attach "Spurrier woulda" to try to give their nonsense claims some credibility.

SOS won a share of the ACC title at Duke of all places. They were arguably the worst team in the conference when he was hired. He would definitely have torn it up at a place like Ole Miss and could have won a title at a USCw.

I for one do not want Kiffin ever as our HBC. He’s a tool and has never grown up. I’d much rather grab the K-State coach. His resume is more impressive and he isn’t an H.R. nightmare as the face of the program.

I am stating this up front. I am not a Kiffin fan and he is not who I want as the next coach.

However, I am not so sure Spurrier would have done better at USC considering the circumstances. USC was on NCAA sanctions while Kiffin was there over the Reggie Bush stuff. As part of the sactions they lost 30 scholarships over the first three years he was there and were on a post season ban. Kiffin went 7-6 and 10-2 his first two years. After that, I believe the scholarship losses caught up with him and went 7-6 and then was fired.

They would have played for the Pac10 championship during the 10-2 season if not for the post season ban. They finished 5th in the final AP poll that year.

Spurrier flat out had Danny fake an Injury and the flop was the epitome of a slap in your opponents face. And I am fine with both.

Being fine with those, bit hating what Kiffin (and the exact same thing that a gazillion other coaches do btw). Seems like just an excuse to pile on Lane.

Dude seems to have cleaned up his act and his players love him and he coaches a clean program that is fun to watch and wins games in the SEC....at one of the toughest places to do any of that.

No one is saying he WAS a DB. We are saying our opponents thought he was. Huge difference. People here called Richt (a very good man) all sorts of names over one play.
