Coaches with a "formula" scare me. Just switch that word out with "process" and you have the same thing. Coaches that are so inflexible as to always have to follow their "formula" may run into a situation where it doesn't work. We need a coach that is willing to change their formula like Spurrier did when opponents devised an effective deterrent to it (under center vs. shotgun).

Counterpoint.... Processes with a proven track record of one year turnarounds that don't claim to take several years while incessantly regurgitating coaching cliches are OK with me.

Urban Meyer had a process. Process doesn't mean inability to adapt like a certain someone we know.

Also, Urban tried the college process in the NFL and it didn't work but it had damn good results in college.

 

Urban is a bad example. He wanted to convert UF to a zone blocking read option offense, but he was flexible enough to make changes when something wasn't working. He completely changed the offense after the LSU debacle in 2005 in the open week prior to the UGa game, going with a FB that his prior offenses never used. That's the type of coach we need, not someone who trots out the same shitty schemes week in and week out regardless of the opponent or results.

Does he have a "formula" or is that just the guy in the twitter saying that? If it were Cignetti saying: "I have a formula" and not telling people what it is, then I could see your concern.

 

Nah his larger process was more than a scheme. It was a mindset, a regiment and motivational tactics. The scheme stuff should change. Saban was a process guy that changed schemes. The method didn't change though. Napier has just proven to be a terrible coach. Every coach has a process. Napiers was just hollow.

Yeah I was all caught up in Urbs scheme and talk about it working in the SEC. Then in the 1st week I realized his scheme was to be stronger, meaner and faster than everyone else.

 

That's right. He got a raise after the A&M douches rejected him.

 

You need to divorce scheme from process/formula. People in over their head spout platitudes and dont answer questions honestly. Hence their reliance on “process” when facing/experiencing failure.

“Process” relates more to organization implementation and priorities during transition. NS is the “ultimate” process coach and he reigned for 15 years.

 

I had the same reaction to the “fake injury”crap Saturday. I’ve been trying to convince myself that Kiffin has changed for the better and I do believe he has to some degree. But those theatrics against Kentucky were tacky. And he still lost. That makes it even look worse.

 

Maybe he's tired of it and wants a new challenge. I wouldn't count him out.

 

Coming here and winning 7-9 games a year will give him all the challenge he can handle and then some
