I guess if they can find illegals who have the skills and training to operate and service the cranes and other equipment used to move the shipping containers and that's ignoring the obvious that hiring illegals is by definition illegal in and of itself.

May I please ask for some clarification : foreign ownership of our ports is bad. Foreign (Russian) meddling in our elections is OK?

You may want to look into foreign ownership of your brain.

    OCTOBER SURPRISE!

Kamrade Kamala Harris and the democrats now own any economic fallout from the strike:

October Surprise! Kamala Harris Embraces Striking Port Workers, Owns Any Resulting Economic Damage – RedState

Vice President Harris voiced her support Wednesday for striking port workers after tens of thousands of longshoremen at ports along the East Coast and Gulf of Mexico walked off the job.

“This strike is about fairness. Foreign-owned shipping companies have made record profits and executive compensation has grown. The Longshoremen, who play a vital role transporting essential goods across America, deserve a fair share of these record profits,” Harris said in a statement.

Here's the problem with her embracing the strikers: She now owns, whether fairly or unfairly, all of the economic fallout of this strike. All of the rising prices, all of the empty store shelves, all of the layoffs due to supply chain disruptions; she owns it all. She has chosen this, and in a month she may well learn that when you dine at the devil's table, you don't get to choose the menu. And it's not just commodities that will be affected; if this strike drags on, there are indicators that it will affect the energy sector, too.

    That's witty indeed.

But the Republican Senate Intelligence Committee found that Russia meddled in our 2016 election to assist Trump, and that the Trump campaign knew this and met with them to coordinate.

That didn't, and doesn't, seem to bother you a bit. But you're all, like, really patriotic when it comes to ports? Why not elections also? (Because of my brain?)

The head of the union is a mobbed up Trumper. He isn't doing poop to change anything before the election.

Speaking of foreign ownership of a brain, the foreign guy on the left owns the brain of the guy on the right.

Putting aside the political impacts, whatever they may be, as often is the case it is hard for me to have much sympathy for unions. They want to hold the economy hostage demanding a 70% increase, and put in assurances that automation won’t replace their jobs. As it stands, some of the stuff that they do in eastern ports is already automated in western ports and international ports. So basically they want to be overpaid and guaranteed to keep a job that at this point is really not even needed.

It’s not foreign ownership, Trump occupies 85% of his waking thoughts. (based on posting history).

True. And there lies the issue. I’ve said for YEARS, that we keep trying
to retain or champion jobs that develop talent.

Make door knobs. Product comes down the line, screw in part X, 5 steps later… you have a door knob.

I make $27 an hr, to master adding part X to the finished product. But I want $8 more… DAMN IT! It’s hard. It probably is, BUT every job is hard. How much are you willing to learn? Many, just don’t want any added responsibilities.

They’re paid by companies just like under other union agreements. There is usually an organization/group that consists of interested parties on the other side (here USMX). In construction it is a collection of local developers, GCs, and some subcontractors. Then the subcontractors employ those union members at the agreed upon union rates and working conditions.

In this case USMX has members from shipping carriers, terminals, and port associations (which is another layer of members) that they negotiate on behalf of.

Bananas are stored as green bananas for long periods of time, and then ethylene gas is used to ripen them.
