Ratings will be interesting. If it’s an indication, in THFSG the Harris/Trump had roughly 17 pages of discussion during the debate. VP debate, just over 2 pages.

I think it was a good job by both candidates. They both avoided ad hominem attack and treated each other with respect.

Both were articulate, with Vance being a little more polished.

I think the biggest thing for Vance is he showed that he’s a decent human being. I know that doesn’t fit the TH narrative, but his empathetic reaction to learning that Walz’s son witnessed a shooting was spontaneous and authentic.

I turned the presidential debate off after 1 question. I gave this a shot out of curiosity and it was legitimately enjoyable. @92gator is absolutely correct.

I was surprised that Walz did not respond to Vance's claim that America is a country of builders, doers (what is this, a Home Depot commercial?), ... with a simple statement, "America is a country of immigrants. Every man, woman, and child in the U.S. is either an immigrant or a descendant of one, and that includes the native Americans."

They both came across to me as more personable than Trump or Harris. Their handshake and conversation at the end were very telling in my opinion. Too bad they are not at the top of the tickets.

In their minds the government should be running companies anyway, so it's all the same to them. But you're right, I believe the manifesto even says not to say the quiet part out loud.

    I agree.
Both did better than I expected.

Walz did better than Harris, but that's not a very high bar to clear. The sequence about Hong Kong was a typical liar caught deer in the headlights moment. "Many times I will talk a lot, many times I'll get caught up in the rhetoric." That's not too reassuring. And credit to the moderators (for a change) for the awkward silence after Walz said "I just misspoke." Walz crumbled within a couple of seconds and started rambling again.

Tonight, Vance came off like a former Marine and Walz as someone who bailed on his unit when word came down about deployment.

After Coach Cotex said he was friends with school shooters he didn't need to defend anything.

I heard that, but I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt. That’s not what he meant to say. I know if I was up on stage for 90 minutes, I’d probably misspeak more than once.

All I heard is confirmation that Walz is a liar, being in China in this case when he wasn't and could have been one of his many other lies, that he is a knucklehead, that he has become friends with school shooters, and men should stay out of the abortion debate as no restrictions should apply right up to delivery which means babies can be murdered so long as the physician and mother agree. (shaking head)

EDIT: Of course, the Vance theme all debate was to rightfully say your day 1 was when you were sworn in as VP. Harris can't be trusted to do in the next administration what she was unwilling to do in the Biden/Harris administration.

Colbert is on now and his monologue is almost entirely mocking Vance and praising Walz, with only a couple good nature jabs at Walz thrown in for “balance.” His audience is overwhelmingly cheering his mocking of Vance.

Walz also claimed his 17 year old witnessed a shooting at a school event. Vance rightly avoided doubting the veracity of the claim, but I have a feeling that will come up again. Walz finds himself in the middle of a lot of drama that he invents inside of his head.

I first thought Vance was expressing empathy but then thought maybe he repeated it because he wanted to call it into question.

Same thought here and you are correct. Vance was waiting for something like that to present itself. And handled it like a good Yale lawyer would do...
