Lagway and his pops need to be part of the search. Keep him happy. He'll also be key in keeping players we want in the fold. And maybe a few recruits.

 

I was joking when I mentioned Cignetti- no doubt he’s a good coach but I think his profile is insanely close to Napier. No way we try that again. Plus he, kleiman, stoops and Leipold would NO DOUBT win here but they are older program builders. The blue collar slow build was just put in place- you HAVE to follow it up with a scheme guy. A young, energetic- you can’t stop my system cuz I’m a beast play caller with Lagway and speed at the edges and Baugh at Rb- kinda guy

As good a shot as any I guess. I’d love to see him tell everyone the whole sec sucks and kick their asses.

 

I know nothing about this Cignetti guy, other than he's got Indiana at 5-0, which is impressive. But to not look at him because his profile is similar to CBN's foolish. Every time we have had a failed head coach (too damn many, lol), we tried to get someone completely opposite. For example, after Muschamp, it was all about not getting a top coordinator because they didn't have head coach experience. After Mullen it was getting a CEO type coach because although Mullen was great with X's and O's he didn't know how to run a program. There's really only one (semi) objective measure we should be looking for: will he be a good coach at UF?

Obviously, no one knows with complete certainty that any coach will be a guaranteed success here, but we can't let our past failures potentially hinder our future progress. All of our recent hires may not have been considered "home run" hires, but none of them were considered "reaches" (except maybe Zook, who in hindsight is probably the best of our "failed" hires). Hiring a coach is kind of like recruiting... not all 5-stars pan out, and some 3-stars become all Americans. We like to think we have it all figured out, but we really don't have much of a clue. Just go for the best "coach" we can get. Any potential new head coach that we will be looking at will have some sort of "wart" that was associated with one of our previous bad hires. To me, that would be like not ever dating a girl that wears glasses because one time I had a bad relationship with a girl that wore glasses.

Again, to be fair, I have no idea who we should hire. Matt Campbell from Iowa St. was my first choice back when Mullen was hired if that tells you anything! My point is, good coaches can be coordinators with no experience, or come from the Sunbelt, or be great X&O guys, or great program guys. We shouldn't limit our options. Hire a GOOD coach. Easy, right?

 

If Kiffen is in and we say no with our recruitment base and NIL cash we deserve the pain we feel now.

It will be interesting to see how their season goes. He could become a hot commodity. You’d be dumb not vet him. I just hope those doing the hiring don’t have tunnel vision like they did with the last one.

 

He’s looking more and more like the guy to me. Will he leave Indiana after only one season is the question.
