Kiffin has the benefit of the NIL era and just lost to Kentucky. Again, I am "ok" with kiffin depending on how he performs on the back of last season otherwise he is no different than several other coaches with occasional good Years and multiple disappointments.

As for cignetti, I've been on board with him but I'm curious how his age would affect things

If Cignetti stopped by for 6-8 years and could bring Mullen years 1-3 results, that's a pretty damn good run.

Just imagine the massive contract Jimmy Sexton will demand from UF to bring Lane Kiffin over. Is he really worth $100+mil? Me: shaking my head. Just look how he abused Scott last time when he knew just how fixated he was on Billy.

The better and smarter play might be elsewhere, imho.

Increase the per year, significantly reduce buyout and length. Stop incentivizing failure and negotiate like the person you're hiring is MORE likely to fail than succeed.

Freeze beat Bama twice. Kiff has beaten no top team.

Could UF even land him now? The guy is definitely a winner and knows how to build a team.

That’s where my reluctance is with Kiffin. It will be really expensive

I like both Stoops and Franklin, both know how to win with less and their teams play with physicality. What stoops has done at Kentucky is pretty unreal. That program was in apathy for 30 years before he got there and I don't think they even cared, and he now has them believing.
What could Stoops do with a much larger budget (coaching hires), better facilities, much better recruiting grounds, more NIL money, much bigger brand, etc...?

Stricklin is the guy that walks into the car dealership and pays over sticker for the car that has been on the lot for 11 months. Sexton will destroy us on a Kiffin deal with him “negotiating”.

I see Kiffin and Stoops as pretty close, one on O and one on D. Both are unknowns at the elite level. I really like offense as I loved that SOS offense. I also loved that Bobby Stoops defense that put us over the top after the Nebraska debacle of ‘95. I graduated from UF in ‘96.

With that said, if I had to pick between the two, I think Kiffin has more upside, but he will break the bank.

With Franklin, I think we have seen his ceiling.

With Cignetti, he hasn’t been at the level long enough for me with this hire. His program building is impressive but I would like to see more.

We should have hired Kiffin 3 years ago.

Yeah, but if he gets Bob Stoops to be his DC and Jon Gruden to be his OC, we will be just fine. Honest.

The only thing about Kiffin is that I have not seen him produce a great Defense and that is one of the best ways to get stability in a program. Producing solid defenses annually is a must.

I think you're overestimating ole Miss' recent football history. Ole Miss, KY and Vandy are the only long standing sec teams not to make it to Atlanta. Ole Miss sucked for 4 straight years before Kiffin arrived.. It's hardly an easy place to recruit to.. Kiffin has won 11 games at both Ole Miss and fau, something Stoops has never done. Kudos to stoops for the upset but I'd bet Kiffin still ends the season with the better record.

You like Stoops and that's fine. I get it a lot of folks don't care for Kiffin and if he were hired he certainly wouldn't get 2+ years like Napier before fans turned on him. Hell he probably wouldn't get 2 losses before the knives come out and I think that will factor into him staying in Oxford.

I would want Kiffin over Stoops all day every day. Doubt we'll get him, though.

    Seriously?
Nutt had a losing record at Ole Miss, tuberville never won more than 8 games , Brewer had a decent run tho just like freeze he got busted for cheating.. Of course NONE of those coaches ever won the sec. In fact ole Miss hasn't won an sec title since the early 60s.
Btw, Frank Curci had a 10 win season at KY before he flamed out.

Nice stat, but Freeze best team also lost to Memphis, destroyed by Florida (a route, I was there) and Ark, never won the sec and ended up with major sanctions. So far Auburn folks arent too happy with his Napier like record.

Nutt had back to back 9 win seasons. Tuberville wasn't there very long and yet won 8 games and 7 games his last two years there before going to auburn. The numbers are there for you to look up. Kentucky is 94th for all time wins and that's with bear Bryant juicing the numbers in the 50s. Ole miss is 60 something. I'm not insinuating either is an "easy place to win." The point is Kentucky has been even a tier below ole miss and yet people are trying to denigrate what stoops has done in an even deeper SEC than ever. Why do people change other people's arguments? Ole miss has had more success and more recent success at a higher clip than Kentucky. No more, no less. Stoops took one of the most challenging positions in the SEC if not football and has acquitted himself nicely over an extended period of time. Kentucky while the occasional nuisance hiccup for Florida in ugly wins was also quite frequently bludgeoned as an afterthought by florida and other powers.

Kiffin won 10 games last year in an era with an expanded number of games played. If he continues that trend rhen he separates himself from what a couple other have been able to do. Namely, sustain that success at ole miss.

And what's the point of bringing up sec titles? How many did Kentucky win during those years?

I note sec titles because the Kiffin detractors note that he has not won a title. Well neither has anyone else at Ole Miss since the 60s. It is not an easy place to win. As for no big wins, most Reb fans thought beating LSU twice and the Aggies were big.

Ole Miss may be a notch behind KY historically but Kiffin inherited a mess and quickly turned it around. That is the point. If he chokes and only wins 7/8 games this year then I will agree he is comparable to the guys you listed.

Btw, I looked at all the coaching records before posting to confirm my memory. Look at the totals, as I said Nutt finished at Ole Miss with a losing record and a terrible sec record, hence he was fired. .
