Don't get me wrong, I like Mark Stoops. He is a solid D coach, but his teams have never been known for offensive explosions. He's a play it close to the vest, not gonna wow you with anything novel, old-school football coach. I don't think anyone at UF would be excited, just left thinking 'well, he can't be worse than the last guy.'
Yup. Kentucky owns Florida. They were a perennial bottom feeder. Not shocking they aren't top 3 In the SEC after a century of failure but they fair better than a great deal of programs and would do even better outside of the toughest conference in football. Kids aren't exactly lining up to play at Kentucky. Commonwealth stadium has that effect. Crazy that context is completely disregarded. Spurrier was 8 and 4 at Duke. Saban was a mostly .500ish coach at mich state. Wonder why?
So Mark Stoops is a better coach than Mullen and Billy Napier. I don’t think anyone would argue against that. Doesn’t make him a good fit for UF
No idea. I think the perception of a good coach for Florida is skewed based on a dearth of any direction. The program has been listless for years now. We have seen offensive football ranked in the 90s and 100s under Mac/champ only to have a sudden reversal with great offense and horrific defenses followed by a team that doesn't really do anything good. What stoops has proven is an ability to make chicken salad out of chicken shit and do it for an extended period of time in the toughest conference in football at a basketball school. I don't even like the guy and agree he is far from "exciting" but I'll take a program known for stout lines and no nonsense instead of what we have seen for years now. At least establish a foundation to build off of.
I get it. I just don’t think it would go over well. Like Greg Schiano to UT revolt. I think we are actually on the same page. I just think Franklin would be more palatable to the masses. He won at Vandy and he’s been pretty damn consistent at PSU, he usually has good line play and he would bring stability which is what you and I both agree UF needs.
Oh I get it. I agree. I also think medicine is hard to take sometime but eventually you feel better. I can't get my head around multiple coaches here having such massive deficiencies In what I thought was standard operating procedures at this level. Strength and conditioning issues, nutrition programs, neglecting entire aspects of football whether it be offense, defense or special teams, recruiting, etc etc. We need some stability in the worst way
It’s just a shitty situation all around. There really isn’t anyone out there that screams we need to get this guy or one that is attainable. I do like that Cignetti guy, but even he has some ?? marks.
And yet they hired SlimeBall Fisher and Slimier Ball Petrino to help SlimeBall 1 out. It is perplexing Marine and I’m not being facetious. I really thought Texas A&M was above that.
It never is. Paterno, Bowden, Osbourne , Saban, sos …… these guys were very rarely in the market for a job.
Honestly it almost doesn’t matter who the HC is, as long as they bring in better coaches than we currently have.
At this point, we don't have enough of an identity to worry about fit. Just find someone who can win.
Stoops is a C coach, for every win over an Ole Miss there is a blowout loss to USCe. He wins some he shouldn't loses some he should, it evens out. The talent at Kentucky is capable of being competitive, historical suckage doesn't matter right now the same way Urbans UF talent doesn't matter right now either.
And what is lane kiffin? Houston Nutt, Tommy tuberville, Billy brewer and Hugh freeze have all had similar success at ole miss. Kiffin hasn't done anything remotely ground breaking at ole miss. Now compare the same time line at Kentucky. Rich brooks is about as good as it got. Which was pretty good. Have to go back to bear Bryant in the 50s before that.
Stoops is the stable one after being in a bunch of abusive relationships. It'll be nice for a time, then we'll get bored and want a divorce.
Historical results are less important than ever in the NIL era. I don't care. Even if I did Stoops' support has been significantly better because of his bringing them back to relevance and he hasn't been able to take the next step. UF coaches are judged by that last step. I saw Cignetti's name come up, if the goal of the new coach is just to win more games than we are now, that guy will get it done.
