I can't find any info for this year. Last year was billed as 2nd annual. Was it 2 and done?

Billy axed it. Said he was in the process of making it fun again.

Agree with this, BUT, it pisses off a lot of Gator haters that think Petty's links to Gainesville and UF are completely made up. For that alone, i support the song. Perhaps a competent coaching staff can reverse the bad luck associated with it, then it'll really piss off the rest of the SEC.

yeah, but UF did exactly zero to associate themselves with him before he died and now the “tradition” is something that marginalizes a long-standing tradition. The song is bad enough, “Tom Petty Day” is ridiculous

Yet visiting teams strike the band and blast during "I won't back down".

Uhhh...UF has never sponsored Tom Petty Weekend: Tom Petty Weekend

Adding to tradition isn't exactly a bad thing.

The last 2 years, there has been Tom Petty Day at a football game. Last year it was the game with "The Catch" by Pearsall.

Your lack of good music taste notwithstanding, but please explain how it has marginalized WATB?

Petty did choose the O'Dome for his 30th anniversary show.

You should check out the origins of "American Girl"

His own daughter said he "loved the Gators" and dreamed of a honorary doctorate.

He worked at UF for a time too

As for UF doing nothing...He didnt go to UF.

Regardless, tributes are generally posthumous. And knowing the connection of the city and Petty, the school did a one day honor. It was Gator Nation that demanded it become permanent and 99% of us are thrilled it is.

not sure what’s funnier…changing a day into a weekend, being wrong, or 2 people agreeing with you being wrong.

you make a lot of assumptions about my musical tastes, but may be right too.

posthostumus honors are for the benefit of those bestowing the honors. Without getting into too hot, Petty doesn’t know he was honored by the school that he loved more than he was loved back…at least while alive.

it has absolutely lessened the impact of WATB…what does every broadcast the last few years show coming out of the 3q TO? (I mean other than a UF coach looking dumbfounded?). What gets posted to social media accounts? It’s not WATB.

Headed out on a 3.5h drive to catch the volleyball game, pretty sure there’ll be a few TP cuts on the playlist. None will be WBD, which isn’t a top 10 TP song.

    1. Agree. Nowhere near his top 10. But thats because his library is so deep. Campbell makes that song great.

    2. We are the Boys Literally happens during the commercial, they come back to catch the end of WBD live on many occasions. WBD literally plays up to breaking the huddle/the snap to start play. Have you seen people just blowing off WATB?

    I love Tom Petty music.

    I think it devalues WATBs.

Our record sucks since we started this.

Younger people love it and is isn't changing.

    Get off my lawn!

I love the new Petty tradition. I cannot wait to be there when we are good again and the song is playing. I look forward to that
