Just a little perspective of my area and how shallow the bay is. The closest buoy would be Old Port Tampa.
You think of rewarding careers, think about how many lives the handful of people in the NHC saved this week. They nailed: The eventual landfall track The timing The size explosion which meant much broader impacts people far away knew to prepare for The surge predictions up and down the coast The rapid intensification The Landfall wind speed as a cat 4 And the impacts farther north with the post landfall track they aren’t perfect, but they have gotten really good at what they do. And their entire staff is 46 people. One of the best investments the government makes, easily.
4ft of water in many parts of campus highways in and out look like huge rivers. So glad my daughter transfered back home from App. Her rental was on a slick gravel inclined driveway that washed out after normal rains. My guess is her old roommates had to leave or else they are stuck in. A lot of scared parents right now.
If I may add some levity. I saw that the Wendy's in Boone near campus is flooded. If you have ever been to that Wendy's you wil know this may be the cleanest it has been in years. We went there one time. Never again.
