Helene hit Florida's Gulf Coast last week

Friend who lives on Tampa bay says peak of the storm surge will be hitting at low tide. I hope everyone else is that lucky. His boat is strapped down solid in his boathouse.

 

We lost power for about 4 hrs last night but it had little to nothing to do with the storm. A tree fell on a transformer up the road a ways. Normal wind, normal rainfall just a freak accident.

 

Yeah this is the (hopefully) bright spot for us. We strapped our boat down and headed to a friend’s on higher ground. Watching the water with our security cam. It’s high tide now, and the water is 1-2 ft higher than normal. It’s into our neighbors’ yards already.

I'm not exactly sure what the grift is by doing that but someone will figure it out.

 

That's fancy. I had one of those NEMA cabinets installed at our waterplant, only without a window. It's really nice.

Paired it with one of these guys. No issues with overheating since it was installed 4 or 5 years ago.

Our main datatcenter is backed up with a generator and a UPS about the size of a washing machine. The generator is a V10 engine converted to run on propane, with a full size propane tank. Our DR server room is backed up with a generator and UPS as well. The UPS's carries us long enough until the generators crank up.

On top of that, we generate our own power on-site. I sat up here through Idalia and when didn't have so much as a flicker. As far as contact with the outside world, we installed a Starlink setup as a tertiary link if our gigabit internet and leased line circuits go down. We'll see how it goes, lol, but I feel pretty good about it.

We're worried about it here, a few miles north of Asheville. We're high and not worried about water, but we have several very mature oaks on the property, one within striking distance of our house, and the water is saturated......so stiff winds are a concern.
